Intro - VladTepes
« on: March 03, 2015, 08:55:11 PM »
G'day all,

I live in Brisbane Australia and have had an interest in (obsession with) Guzzis for many years (sparked by the 1980's Calis). Sadly though, I've never owned one.

I do take the opportunity as often as possible to 'test ride' them though....  ;D

My current ride is a 2007 Suzuki GSX1400 (Brilliant Bike) which I can't justify selling as it's just too good, and wouldn't fetch enough $ to pay for a Guzzi anyway......

I'd love an old Cali and a new Cali and a Griso and ... well, being a little bit more practical as a bike for me and the "pillion in a million" I fancy a Breva 1200 ABS.

At the moment I can't afford to indulge myself with a Guzzi project , but am in the (slow) process of building a 'classic' styled Honda CX500 which will be badged "notaguzzi". I've even had the badges made already !

 Cheers everyone!

Hunting for the right bike for an irreplaceable pillion is a job worth doing right!   Assume that you will be installing a custom seat on it, the stock seat on ANY bike is unlikely to be ideal!

And CX500s are almost-Guzzis that are a lot of fun, enjoy it while you look around .....

I sure wish Suzuki sold the GSX1400 here in the states.  Definitely would have had one in the garage by now.

That's because in South Dakota there are places where you can aim and fire it.

Especially here on the east side of the state.  All we have are straight roads.  No wonder our tires wear funny!  Now out west, toward the Black Hills... :drool

Yes indeed I, umm he, did !

Welcome to the forum.

Mate I have no decent picture of the CX500 as it is, its currently disassembled.  I'll take one anyway just for fun though.
I will post a pic of the GSX1400 for you though.

I sure wish Suzuki sold the GSX1400 here in the states.  Definitely would have had one in the garage by now.

Yeah they are GREAT bikes. Does Yamaha sell the XJR1300 there? GSX's are better than those.. (6 speeds as opposed to 5, more space under the seat, etc)

We did ask and are GLAD we got!    Where did you get the "notaguzzi" badge made?   And that's my favorite Suzuki 1400 of all time ... looking forward to seeing the CX500 when it's done ....

That is a FINE looking Suzuki you got there!  Sure wish we were neighbors. (friendly test ride?). Nope.  No XJR either.  That's why I bought a Griso.  Sure like my griso.  Maybe one of them blessing in disguise things.

Nice bike(s)! That Suzuki is a gem.  ;-T

Good luck with the Honda. The frame and engine are naturally ugly. Are you going for performance or for ways of improving the looks?

Red07 - yes possibly a blessing in disguise (Griso's ARE lovely).

The Suzuki is so good that I cannot find ANY good reason to sell it.  The sale price wouldn't net me much $ so it's worth much more sitting under my bum on a ride ! And it does look the business.

Penderic - Naturally ugly? Never.....  Well, maybe a bit.  I actually like the quirkiness of the engine. As a Guzzi owner you should be able to understand that!  There's not much that can be done to improve the performance and frankly doing so is a waste of money. That's not what they are about.  It's definitely the looks department which will be getting my attention.  Not sure exactly what it will look like when finished but it won't be a true 'cafe racer', more of a café/classic.  (I have a set of peashooter pipes for it) and it will be in some form of British Racing Green.  But most of all, it's just a bit of fun.  I'll park it next to people's Guzzis, and just watch....

The CX500 is an ugly beast, I remember the first one I saw thinking, "that makes so much sense, I want one."

Lannis a mate (who is a gunsmith etc) made the badges for me with a CNC machine. Way too expensive but nobody else has 'em !

That's pretty nice.  Couldn't tell from the pictures the material, whether it was cast, etc.   CNC machines are very useful things!
