The W is lighter.  I documented some of the differences between my 2000 W650 and 2003 Bonnie T100 for the TriumphRat forum when I owned both bikes at the same time.  Couple of mistakes in my attachment:
1. I think the Triumph pipes are single wall stainless, not chrome (not certain about this.)
2. Special tools required to change shims on Triumph.  Not necessarily, though there are tools that make it easier.

I'm on vacation, so I don't have my spread sheets or other data sources. But by memory, isn't the neo-Bonnie closer to 500#, meaning at least 50-70# heavier than the W?

Actually Kawasaki just bought a chunk of Meguro and rebadged the 650 as a Kawasaki . Not an exact copy of a BSA , although they certainly were similar . Kind of like a Rikuo was almost a Harley  :D

Triumph spec sheet shows wet wt of 225kg, approx. 495# with 4+ gallons fuel.

Not sure of the exact details but the original was essentially a BSA A10!built under licence so what you got was a bike that was built on machine tools that were actually accurate rather than the horrible, pre 1930's worn out crap that BSA was stuck with because the board wouldn't re-invest the profit from sales to what was effectively a captive market. The preferred to pay shareholders big dividends instead. End result? No pommy bike industry! Well done them.

If you want to see a completely f#cked business plan you need look no further than the British automotive industries. A great shame as they did have some good ideas and designs. They were never given a chance though.
