A favorite way for me to waste time (second only to reading this forum) is watching bicycle road races.  For us cycling Walter Mittys, this is the equivalent to World Series week.

Just what I need, more distractions!  My family and I used to watch it every year, before my wife suddenly ran off with the kids and the big BMW.  I really miss doing that.  Oh well.  Maybe I'll go on a bike ride and watch the highlights this evening.

I don't have a favorite this year, the Time Trial sure was interesting....and fast.

Any time you set up a sports competition that pays the participants based on performance ("professional sports"), you will get rules getting broken, drugs being taken, etc..  The organizers keep fooling themselves and the spectators, trying to "clean up the sport", whatever sport that may be.

Cycling has had more than it's fare share of doping... You could say more than most...  But a lot has changed since the Festina affair and then really after the Lance/Floyd/Postal implosion/debacle and I would venture that cycling is FAR FAR cleaner than NFL, MLB, or NBA these days.  most notably, the NFL testing situation is a joke. the only thing they ever catch people for is pot, which can show up in your system for a month

I did a tour of the Old Lyme/Deep River greater metro area in 2007 when I was road testing the EV'l Twin.  I liked the architecture.  Much different than our traditional igloos -- wooden buildings all pointy on top, and low stone fences.  Houses and barns had huge red stars hung on the walls. What's up with that?

I think there has a been a yearly thread running for at least 3-4 years, not sure why he picked this one!

Tour is postponed until september this year I believe...  not sure how that will impact Vuelta a Espana

There was an interesting documentary on the other day I saw called:  A Sunday in Hell

Mid 70's Danish documentary on the 1976 ParisĖRoubaix bicycle race.  Just watching those guys ride on the cobblestones makes my teeth chatter!

Fun to see old style 70's top of the line bikes being raced at mad speeds, most of the guys without helmets too, just the famous upturned caps with the names of the riders like Eddie Mercx and others.

The good days of racing, with the final sprint around the velodrome for the last lap to win it by a hair!
