’13 Norge, major oil leak, part 2
« on: August 17, 2016, 07:20:18 PM »

So after seeing the red triangle and oil can, I had to ride a half mile to get off the road. Right now I have the airbox off, tightened things up (especially the left banjo bolt on oil feed line), replacing air filter and oil pressure sensor while I am there, and cleaning up all the oil. This may be to just distract myself from thinking about a possible toasted engine.

Question is, how do I find out out if there are major problems? Put it together and ride it, listening for tell-tale noises?

btw, Thanks MGrego for finding replacement oil pressure sensor (Duralast PS 571 from Autozone)

How much oil was left in the sump when you  shut it down? Or how much did you have to add to top it back up? If the motor didn't drastically over heat I would think it likely would have still had enough oil left to prevent any damage to bearings ect.

The oil was at the low mark on the dipstick. Less than a pint put it up to 3/4 full.

If it wasn't knocking/noisy when you shut it down you should be good, only way to know for sure is to run it(can't ruin a stinking fish) or tear it down and look at the top end for wear, most likely spot to first show signs of oil starvation
Never argue with an idiot, people watching can't tell the difference

You will be fine, run it hard and put it away wet!

I'll do that, and throw in some prayers to St. Carlo.
Thanks.
