Do We really buy new Guzzis poll
« on: January 25, 2017, 07:18:40 PM »
I've been on this forum for a couple of years now.  I've noticed a proclivity to hang on to our Guzzis for a very long time.  So my question is does anyone (besides me) really buy new Guzzis?

I bought 2 new ones in the last 4 years.  A V7 Stone in 2013 and a V7II Stone in 2015.  I hope that answers your question.  I sold the first one when I bought the second one, mainly to get ABS.

I bought 2 last year, first one from 2016 and second one from 2009 and at this point things are not looking good, my wife put embargo on purchasing anything on two wheels.

In nearly 49 years of riding there has been only one new motorbike in the garage , a leftover 1970 Triumph TR6R purchased in 1972 . So . while I might lust for a new Guzzi , I am just psychologically incapable of actually buying any new vehicle  Oh , 2001 Jackal .

First new bike - 2009 Calvin.  Sold that to a friend and bought a new 2014 V7 Special that resides next to 3 vintage Guzzis...

I'm happy with my '80's Guzzi's. Don't see a need for a newer one <shrug> New Triumph?  maybe.

Well my youngest one currently is my 2008 G8 but I also purchased a 2013 Cali 1400 in the US and learnt the hard way that I could never be a 'Cruiser' rider so I sold it. Unfortunately since the company now only makes fashion accessories and carnival rides I fear I've probably bought my last *New* Guzzi. I'm hoping to pick up a Stelvio soon though.

My bike history:
1979-1989 was a Suzuki GS400
1989 to present is a 75 T-3
2011 to present is an 8V Norge

Pretty simple compared to most but has served me well for the most part.

I'll bet there are more 98-99 Californias than any other bike but they aren't represented in the poll.

Like mine.   :bike-037:

Huh?   Mine's a '98, and there was a little circle thingy for it

I've bought exactly two new bikes since 1974, a RD 250 in '74 and in '86 a KLR 600.  The Kawasaki lasted three months before a drunk hit me from behind totaling my new baby.  It's been used ever since.

I've owned 5 Guzzis (still own 3 of them), 4 of the 5 were purchased from WG members.

#1 My first Guzzi was a lightly-used 2009 V7C, bought from a WG member in 2011.
#2 was a 2006 Breva 1100 bought from another WG Member (and now back in the hands of another Guzzi member).
#3 I *almost* bought a new Black/Orange V7 Special in 2014, but, then bought my 2013 V7 Racer (used) instead.   This one also came from a WG member.
#4 2014 V7 Special, black and orange, slightly used with 976 miles.    Bought from (I think) a WG member.  The deal was facilitated by Cam (of course a WG member).
#5 1974 Edorado 850.    Craigslist find.   Only Guzzi I've bought that didn't come from a WG member.

Bought two 98EV's when they were new.  Both still running strong at 100K.  Daughter-in-law just bought a V7-Stone so I passed down the responsibility to buy new.

I purchased my first Guzzi in 2009.  It's a '73 Eldorado.  I wanted something newer, so I bought a '77 T3 in 2015.  I really tried to buy something from the last decade, but just couldn't do it.  Newer bikes aren't doing it for me.  I would like to test ride a Griso at some point though.
Now
'73 Eldorado
'77 T3
Then

'74 Honda CB750

When I was younger I bought 2 new bikes. I found out that owning a bike long term ain't my thing, regardless of marque. Cannot justify the financial hit on a passing tart   . Have owned a harem of Guzzis from vintage 1968 to 1993. Most of my bikes cost me only tires fuel and insurance and sweat equity over the course of ownership. (After resale) Except the ones I bought new.......guess I'm not a true cognoscenti. :embarrassed:

I'm buying a new one.  I got a new engine a couple of weeks ago, and just the other day I ordered new seals and O-rings.  There's a new clutch somewhere too, and it will stay that way as long as my torque converter works.  Oh -- and some forks.  Really.  N.E.W.  If the trend holds it will be completely new in 10 years.

Currently my youngest is Rodekyll, my '76 Convert.  Bought in '78.  I'll still race any other 'vert and win.  The 3'VL TWIN is younger in some respects -- less than a year on the road after a 3-year scratch build, but there's not enough Guzzi in it to qualify for the question.

Now that the kid is grown, the mortgages paid off and retirement stretches before me . . .  I can consider a new motorcycle. Ironically, now that I have time for endless wrenching, I'd much rather spend it riding.

I await the next generation of V7, or a sport-touring V9.
