A couple of changes and it’d be one of the better ones.

Wow, less than 3K miles....

I much prefer the 4V motor on the GRiSO. Yeah, I know less power, blaa blaa, but something about the raw nature of the motor appeals to me more than the 8V motor.

That’ll do for starters.

With the ‘bars.
Why do you have handlebars so wide on a bike that is so light to steer ?
I had a ride on one on my trip (see photo), and I got 10 miles down the road before I realised that I had odd gloves on !

I'd probably ask that the suspension be made more compliant for those of us who live in parts of the US with winter-damaged roads that often stay that way.  Adjustable bars and footpegs.  Another gallon of fuel would be nice.

When I saw KiwiRoy get into an older 2V Griso a couple of years ago, that gave me the confidence to jump on a deal for this 2007 2V last summer.

A very close match to this ebay bike for sale, although mine had much higher mileage, 56K? kms

The bike was already well farkled, guzzi screen & handguards, bags, risers, bars, seat modded higher, right side GT exhaust and most importantly a Beetle map.

The fueling on the bike is excellent and I've been pleasantly surprised with the mileage and range, if I'm careful, I can confidently get 250 kms on a full tank.

It suffers a little from the sticky hanging idle when hot due to the stepper motor, even after being cleaned, but it is a very capable back hills roadster, and although not in it's element, surprisingly somewhat nimble on slow dirt road exploring. I've even had it on atv trails, not that I'll be repeating that again if I can help it .

I find the 2V 1100 has plenty of power and it's nice working on an engine that is already familiar to me; seems like the overall gearing is lower than my other guzzis, very responsive;  even with the 6 speed tranny, not that I should or need to be going that fast, but I sometimes find myself reaching for another 7th gear that's not there, lol

I would like a little more wind protection like Huzo's Norge, but there is the bonus trade off of much easier access for maintenance, fwiw ymmv

Sunday I was out with my mate who has recently uploaded a Beetle map on his 2007 Griso 1100. As we re- fueled he was grinning to report getting 59 mpg. Mind you he was following some old rider who has just taken his training wheels off.

250 kilometers/17.18 liter fuel cell or 155 miles/4.54 gallon fuel cell = 34 MPG. The Griso IMHO needs at least an additional 3 gallon of fuel capacity

My real world mileage is much better than that. When I do the math on my fill ups/trip meter, I'm getting in the area of 20 kms/litre which works out to 45 mpg, about the same mileage as the CalVin(oem lean map), which I think is excellent considering the richer in spots Beetle map and a tendency to be heavier with the right hand on the Griso.

Because I ride mostly in relatively remote areas, sometimes far from the nearest gas station, the 250 kms range I mentioned is my comfort zone, before I start planning/looking hard for gas, also usually shortly after this the low fuel light comes on, I've never forced the issue on that bike and ran it dry, to find out how far it truly will go on a full tank.

A bigger tank would be nice on the Griso, but in my experience, it's not as big an issue as I thought it would be fwiw ymmv

I've never run out of fuel on either of my Griso's either. I obviously must be doing something wrong. Cruising at or around the speed limit my 8V will consume about a litre every 20km. I've been to some pretty remote places on it and have always managed to find fuel easily enough. Mind you if you are really playing with the go handle the economy plummets but that is just the nature of the 8V.

So do you get 250 kms per tank or do you get 45 mpg which equals 329 kms per tank?

Perrazimx, your mistake is assuming people run 4.54 gallons out of their tanks before refueling. Nobody does that, and the tank may or may not hold that much if turned upside down to empty it.

I too get 45-50 mpg and comfortably go 150 miles between fill ups, and have gone over 180. Like others, I calculate my mpg using a calculator with the gallons listed on the gas pump and the mileage recorded by the odometer. 4.54 gallons is just a number in the back of the owner's manual, and is completely irrelevant.

I don’t get out much on my bike, but when I do, I’ve concluded that the effective range of your tank is how far you can go before you pass the last decent servo.
More than once I’ve seen 400 k on the odometer, knowing I can do another 60 k, but the town 60 k away serves distilled cat’s piss, thinly disguised as petroleum distillate.
So you effectively have to stop before you need to, so as to be able to get the good fuel.
The old pilot in me likes to have 45 minutes fixed reserve, so I find I usually still have 3 or 4 litres in the tank when I stop to refill.

What octane is distilled cat piss
Dunno mate, I only barely passed organic chemistry.
But with my new map I can burn the stuff, but it smells horrible and trying to hold the cat can be problematic at best.
It’ll be alright in my V85 though, it’s got a cat converter...

Griso, the nicest bike I keep telling myself I don't want. This one especially so.... So many reasons.... Just keep reminding myself.

80CX1000,

"The fueling on the bike is excellent and I've been pleasantly surprised with the mileage and range, if I'm careful, I can confidently get 250 kms on a full tank."

A few post later

80CX1000,

"     My real world mileage is much better than that. So do you get 250 kms per tank or do you get 45 mpg which equals 329 kms per tank?

Look he could have phrased it more clearly sure. But like Moto says no one regularly runs their bikes completely out before refueling, so it should have been obvious he wasn't talking about running it dry. Instead he was talking about a range he knows he can count on before refueling. Which therefore isn't enough for anyone else to "calculate" HIS mileage. You simply don't have the data.

And ok, you missed that fine enough.

But....Why, when your mistake is pointed out to you do you feel the need to double down on douche instead of just recognizing it and saying, ok, I get your meaning now.

Jeeeeeez it's one thing to be argumentative when trying to prove a point, it's another thing if you're just being obtuse to refuse understanding it.

How do you calculate range w/o knowing the fuel capacity? Knowing the fuel mileage w/o knowing the capacity is useless. Maybe tank capacity isn't just an irrelevant number in the back of the owners manual??

You calculate the range by knowing how many gallons you're probably going to fill up with. Usually it's around three and a half. You know enough not to plan on 4.54 because then the tank, if it could contain that much, would be completely empty.  As far as I know, no one has ever found that the Griso tank contains 4.54 gallons in practice. That's why the number is irrelevant. I don't recall a single motorcycle that holds as much in practice as the manual says it does.

To calculate your mileage you divide the number of miles you traveled by the number of gallons you just purchased.

What the heck do you do? Are you just goading me?

I guess I could have worded it better, I didn't realize it would be such a contentious issue

Because I ride in areas where fuel stops can be non existant, I want to know how far I can confidently get without getting stranded or sucking nasty bits from the bottom of the tank,,, running the tank dry to ascertain my maximum range limit is not my objective.

Some carb'd bikes I've taken spare camping fuel bottles of gas with me as back up and run until I hit reserve.

With the fuel injected bikes and no reserve just the low level warning light it's a little different, but along the same idea; I do remember taking spare fuel with me a few times until I confirmed that the low fuel light actually worked and consistently.

With the Griso, when I first got it, from all the negative discussion about the fuel mileage and capacity, I was expecting to run out around 180 kms, I didn't,,, pushed my limit out to 200 kms,,, then 220 kms,,, and finally got to the point where I realized I could confidently get to 250 kms before the low fuel light came on, according to your figures that should leave me with a buffer of 60-70 kms before I'm walking, sounds about right.

That's not Stelvio range territory, but it's not bad, fwiw it impressed the hell out of me, very close to my CalVin, which doesn't have the bad reputation for a small tank.

Imo, for myself, the size of the Griso gas tank doesn't appear to be the deal breaker it is sometimes made out to be, fwiw ymmv literally

I average 40-42 MPG with my 1100 GRiSO, 160-180 miles is very reasonable. After all, its not designed to be a LD/ST ride. Sure many do LD, but even so, thats (for me at least) the perfect stopping distance. Heck, I put 120K plus between 1986 and 1996 on my 1979 XS1100 that had at best a 120 mile range. On several Iron Butts back in the 90's I would stop once an hour for fuel....
30-33 MPG and 4.2 gallons. I think anything north of 150 is spot on perfect, and if your riding LD you will have luggage of some sort, and if you have luggage, there is no reason not to carry a liter of fuel in a bottle, but thats just my opinion. One of the first things I do with any motorcycle is find the range I need to refuel and try to do so when down to last gallon, so on the Griso it is 150 - 10 miles.

Man, some of you guys are pissy..... Its summer brothers, get out and ride! Though Peraz does like to stir the $h!t....

Nice looking bike.  Looks like someone swapped out the 2v silencer for one from an 8v.  (or was it available that way in Australia?)
