Holiday party (some Guzzi content)
« on: December 24, 2018, 12:17:42 PM »
Mark at Moto Guzzi Classics asked me if Iwanted to ride one of his fresh restorations to a big party one of his oldest friends was putting on. "Does Raggedy Anne have cotton tits?"
My ride for the day..a pristine T.

Mark rode the Loop. Both were totally fresh. His had been around the block, mine had a couple of miles on it..and was one of the sweetest running big blocks I've ever operated. :thumb:
Quite a party indeed.. a really good bluegrass band,

Yeah, Charlie.. that Gullwing was uh, pretty nice.  It is a totally correct restoration, including the matched luggage strapped down in the back..

The guy putting on the party started out in the back of Mark's shop sanding fenders, etc. He eventually got his own shop specilizing in customs and antiques. Many of the cars, including this on are his work.

Thought maybe it belonged to Eric Hjeltness?

I've never ridden a "new" T back in the day, but this one is maybe better than that. Mark found it as a complete low mileage bike and went through everything. It *is* a sweetheart. Smooth as glass between 3500 and 4500. It gave that feeling of all I would have to do is point it east and I'd end up in Indiana. I don't know how he does it. There is absolutely "no" high tech tune up stuff in his shop. Just does it by feel and ear. <shrug>
Yeah, the Vdub had obviously been brought out of the shed.. it was covered with dust. Pretty valuable machine.

Here's Mark sitting on the T, and Ed Milich..tall guy in black. (More Guzzi content)

It was a really good time. Mark had told me how to get back to the shop, leave the T, etc if I got bored because he was planning on staying all afternoon. Not a problem..there was never a dull moment.

Good to see Mark recovered well from his wreck. The 'T' is not a hi-tech bike, carb sync, feeler gauge, and timing light.

He's limping pretty badly yet, but no crutches. Probably as good as he will get. He doesn't use any of those tools, either.  Carb sync and timing is by feel and ear.. <shrug> Like Isaid, Idon't know how he does it.

Yeah, I was riding back to Redondo Beach as it was turning dark, and thought about putting my liner in my jacket.   You have to take the bitter with the sweet, though.. a few other people have discoverd the weather is good here, too.
It's a nice place to visit.

I flew Mark (hates flying) out to the WV National Rally in 2005 on my FF points.  There was a line a mile long of carbed bikes waiting for him to tune.  All he had was a flathead screwdriver and his ears.

Tell him Cam said hey.

What's he asking for that T?

I'll do that, Cam.  I heard him BSing a couple of Asian guys and heard 15K mentioned, along with $300.  It probably is the nicest T in the country.. all the rest have been cut up to make cafe racers.

Cute little German car has funny doors.  My brother did a complete restoration on one of those he brought back fro Mexico in the seventies.  Body, engine, everything.  I didn't say frame cause it didn't have one.  It could go 160 mph when he got done with it.

Crikey! That Gull Wing is gorgeous. Didn't the Gull Wings have fitted luggage in the trunk?
Had it not been so soon after the Solstice I would have thought that was Dave Roper, in the crowd.
Well that and knowing he is near home.  R3~
