Title: V711 traction control
Post by: voncrump on February 14, 2019, 12:44:23 AM
I have just wrestled a new tyre onto the back of my V711.
The last couple of times I have done this I have gone through the process of pushing the buttons etc and resetting the traction control.
This time I can’t get it to go past the light flashing at 30kph stage.
I cruise along at 30kph and what I should see is the light flash faster and then go out.
It just keeps flashing.
So I give up and see if the traction control is working properly.
Find a patch of loose metal and sure enough, puttt puttt puttt.
All seems to be functioning.
The only thing that has been changed is the fuel map was updated by the dealer to correct the stuttering when cold.
What’s Up?
Cheers, voncrump.

Check the tone wheel make sure there is no damage or deformity. Check air gap between tone wheel and speed sensor, should be the same as front. Same size tire as original?  Also check for stored faults w guzzzi diag. Speed sensors can be prone to water intrusion if ridden in the wet and will throw the abs / traction control lights.

everything seems to be working properly, it’s just that the recalibration process by the book doesn’t complete.
I will ride it a bit of a distance tomorrow and see what happens.
The sensor must be working for the checking process to happen.
This happens when you first start to move and is confirmed when the flashing lights go out.
Time will tell.

Check for faults if you have the cable and laptop / guzzi diag.  My cali did the same as you describe and it was the wheel sensor, also had stored code #PO502  which indicates a fault with the rear speed sensor. If you have  this fault stored, you can try clearing it and then re try calibration. If the code returns I would replace the sensor. perhaps the sensor wire got damaged during the tire change.

I have been out for a good ride, all functions working properly.
I have been needlessly recalibrating at each tyre change..
Ride on.
A day out tomorrow with the Italian club.

Excellent! It will let you know if it needs calibrating as the abs / tc lights won't stop blinking when you start rolling.  :thumb:

Cool! Are we talking about my beloved Hammond Organ here?
