ISO: Moto Guzzi Dad Hat
« on: January 20, 2023, 10:02:44 AM »
Hi guys...  I want a black 'Dad Hat' with white MOTO GUZZI embroidered, or the MOTO GUZZI + Eagle logo

I see there are tons on eBay and etsy... but a lot of times these are really crappy quality chinesium and you can't always tell from the pics...

Anyone bought a nice quality cotton or blend dad hat and can share a link to a decent seller?

New term for me too. If it is anything like mom jeans it is meant to be an insult.

A 'dad hat'  is and unstructured cotton baseball cap with adjustable sizing via a strap and buckle vs. a 'snapback' with the plastic hole & snap system (or a fitted hat).  Most ballcaps now are very rigid front re-enforced with a stiff flat bill. Most ballcaps sit high up off your head, a dad hat is lower profile and lacks the stiff inner lining on the front panels

Hat makers call that "unreconstructed".  There's half and full, too.

There’s actually a website for a company called DadHats. It’s for common sense headwear that doesn’t make you look like a rap star wannabe .

My wife brought me one from the Guzzi store in Milan........I asked for Black but it seems that was a 2020 or 2021 color and they only had grey......and it is structured, boring and is what it is.
I will check to see where it was made. So I went on Ebay or Amazon...don't remember, and found a dark grey with red Moto Guzzi and Eagle and that one I like, but pretty sure it is made in China. I will get a pic later and send.

My dad hat is one I bought when I went to Street Vibrations in Reno. It was hot and sunny, when I got there I realized I had forgotten my hat. Being bald I needed one ASAP, sunburn ya know. I found a fairly inexpensive dad hat with a Harley Racing logo on it. I rode a Harley then. It became my favorite hat. I still wear it today but it is getting kinda threadbare. I am going to have to retire it pretty soon. When one of my Guzzi sees my in it he comments on how I just can't give up on the Harley thing.

Finally went out to the garage and went into my V Strom side cases.....where I left my favorite hat.....the dark grey one. The light gray one is official Moto Guzzi wear, brought from Milan by my wife, and is made in CHINA.....and the Dad Hat, the dark grey one from Ebay, is also made in China. Both are decently made and the ebay one was cheap and the Milan one not. Plus the Milan one is incredibly boring.....no offense but if I were Moto Guzzi I wouldn't focus so much on the past. If you want a special hat look at Cafepress, they will make you whatever you want, incl shirts and hats with whatever design you send them

. I have a Royal Enfield hat from them.

Instead of Dad hats, although with the exception of the one on far left, these all qualify with the brim and adjustable back strap, we could call them old guy comfortable bike hats.
Starting from left in 1979 @  age 25, with a new 79 Yamaha XS 750, I went for the Marlin Brando look,
By 1982 we acquired a 78 XS 1100 with a Vetter Taraplane to take the kids with,
My first Guzzi an 03 EV acquired in 2006 required a hat change, nice hat but the band is all elastic, and only fits properly when the hair gets long,
At the age of 60 I’d mature a bit and got the Red hat to go with the 07 Grey/Silver Norge my wife bought me, I wanted a Red Norge cus they go faster, but had to settle for the Red hat instead.
But the Guzzi hat I purchased at the 2010 Salida National in CO gets the most use, but due to the aging process I’ll be dammed if I can figure out where I left that one.
By the way like the hats I still have all four bikes.

Wow.  Impressive.  Reminiscing is only a garage away and you can do it while riding too.  It's easy to find someone who wishes they still had even one of their early bikes.  And a cool hat biography,
