2013 V7 Special bar end mirrors
« on: March 20, 2015, 07:10:55 PM »
To my dismay I learned there are inserts in the handlebar that prevent use of plug and play bar ends. They cannot be removed, someone on the forum said they are welded in place, which makes sense considering there is nothing short of a drill to get them out. I cannot believe something as simple as bar ends is such a hassle. Any input would be appreciated.  :beat_horse

It might be a less frustrating exercise to just replace the bar. .

Or if the mirror clamps onto the bar, can the controls be moved inboard by 1/3 inch?
I just answered my own question.  If you need to be inside the bar, there's really no easy way around it.

Good luck.

Who is the madman, or A-hole, who decided to weld an insert into the ends of the handlebar? WTF?

The same mad man who loc-tight'd the entire length of threads on mine.  Throttle side came off no problem. Clutch side wouldn't move for heaven or earth.  Then the allen stripped.  Now fully committed I got after it with the universal adjustable locking general purpose wrench with all the effort I could throw at it.  CRG insert incoming.

I have Rizoma bar end mirrors on my 2009 V7C.

I took one of the stock bar end weights and a mirror to a machine shop and asked them to make a pair of aluminum bar ends that fit the Rizoma mirrors and looked as close to stock as possible. They did a great job. It did cost me $100, but at the time there were no other options that I could find. I think that Rizoma now makes bar end adapters that will work the V7 handlebars.

Here is a link to pictures of my bike.

Use those inserts to your advantage! Use a different bolt if needed, but you won't find a more solid mount than welded inserts if you can make them work. I used a longer bolt on mine, and sandwiched my CRG type bar end mirrors between the bars and the bar end weights.

Worst case, you can buy new bars for under $25 and make the bike your own. You will have to drill holes for the controls, but it's not difficult at all.

I used these http://www.rhinomoto.com/bar-end-sliders.html on my V7 Stone along with CRG Arrow mirrors.

edited to add, I got the ones with the groove in them of course, not sure what mirrors you are planning to use but the CRG's fit fine.

Corsa Italiana sell these:

http://www.corsaspeedshop.com/epages/yp3bcw66xzdr.sf/en_GB/?ObjectPath=/Shops/yp3bcw66xzdr/Categories/Guzzi_V7_Stuff

but you can get the bar ends by themselves. It may be cheaper for you to have some helpful local turn something up, or even cut a groove in the originals. If you want close-up photos of the Corsa ones, just let me know.

When I had the standard bars, I used the CRG standard type, but cut the insert off - worked well. I believe they did, at one stage anyway, have flat versions for our guzzis.

I bought the Corsa Italiana barends referenced below for my V7 from Corsa Meccanica in Toronto.  If they stock them, there is high chance other shops in the USA stock them.  Worst case, order a pair from Corsa Meccanica.
