And… with a sloppy repaint job at that! NOTHING like the beautiful original paint job from the factory in Germany.

I would venture a guess at $13 ~ $14K, if it were the orange paint scheme I bet it would go for at least $3K more.

As for the paint, I thought it looked pretty good?

It's got to be hard to replicate the original smoke / fade paint/

If you have a good eye and touch, it’s not hard to replicate. I did it back in the day with the Daytona Orange

Agreed...not factory, but I did not think it looked THAT bad...

I had a ‘75 and although it was a looker it was an awful around town bike. The 75/5 is so much better for errands and such. Interestingly, Hagerty’s values a #1 condition 1975 R90S at $16,100 and a #1 1977 R100S at $20,500. That’s more than a ‘77 LMI at $18,800 and ‘72 Norton 750 Interstate Combat at $11,800.  Usually Hagertys is pretty good but the 100S doesn’t make sense.

Are you sure that isn't where the '77 RS is valued , those first year RS models have become collector pieces .

 Dusty

Dusty - Both the S and the RS are valued at $20,500 for No. 1 condition although the 2 and 3 condition RS’s are valued slightly higher than the S models. Historically, the R90S is the marquee bike.  It feels like BaT is shaking everything up, with CS models getting silly money and /5 models slowly coming up.

Please explain. I've painted a lot of these, and looked at original smoke jobs and repaints. No two factory jobs were alike, but I'm curious about your objections to this paint.

FWIW - this is NOT one of my paintjobs, so I'm simply curious as to what you don't like about it.

Where the painter really missed the mark is on the tailpiece.

I agree Dave but my point was these jobs are very preferential. I always ask people what they want, pointing them back to the literature and asking them which they prefer...

It's an interesting topic and frankly it has taken me a lot of time to develop the technique. I've often thought about offering a REPAIR service for original bodywork with blemishes, such as the one in your photo. Honestly, it's probably easier to do a job from scratch so again it depends upon what the owner wants...
