Title: V7 850 - New custom map - UpMap
Post by: chrisfer on September 15, 2022, 02:04:57 AM
Hello,
While waiting for Guzzidiag for V7 850, I bought an UpMap box :
https://www.guareschimoto.it/prodotto/centralina-gcorse-by-upmap-kit-t800-plus-v7-850-e5/
https://store.up-map.it/en/maps/1001-link_rewrite_1307.html
The mapping is done by Guarechi that reassures me.
The use, with smartphone, is simple and fast, invisible and reversible.

Really more pleasure.
Used with "Mistral" exhausts and their "DB Killer", this mapping eliminates engine hesitation at low revs.
The engine is even more pleasant, more flexible, from the lowest revs.
Operation is smoother, throttle response is better, always constant.
Beyond 4000 rpm I did not notice any change, but the engine was already working very well.

I have the same - Mistral's with db inserted. I will see how things are after my 10K service.  Keep updates coming.

Thanks for posting. I also have fitted Mistral exhausts on my 850 Special. I’m seriously considering getting UpMap, so the link is very useful. Merci bien.👍

I have the Upmap as well. Running the aftermarket exhaust with db killers map and agostini mufflers. Happy with the result, runs much better than it did with the stock map.

Arrived and installed. Can only reiterate earlier comments. I do have a question though: is it true that if you download the original (ie OEM) map for your bike (defined by its VIN, which you have to input as part of the process), do you get the one it came with from the factory or the latest release for that model? Although it’s good that the original map can be re-installed, it would be better if it were the latest version. For example, my Special was registered in June 2021. Since then there have been two map updates of which I am aware - one in June 2021 (which mine may or may not have) and one in April this year. So, if one has had one’s bike dealer serviced and has the latest map, it would be a retrograde step to revert to an earlier one. Anyone know for sure? There is no reference to the map number/date in the App.

You can ask where you buy it (Guareschi ?).

Thanks for posting this. I think I will invest in an upmap device in a month or two.

You’d think, but every email I got from them re the purchase etc of the device was in Italian, even though I had posted details, including location (UK). Might be worth a try though…..

Yes, send a email and tell us, if you do not have an answer I will provide you with another email.

That said, the interest in going back to the original mapping seems to me quite weak.

Unless something adverse happens using the UpMap map (unlikely) I won't revert to the original map, but as my bike is under warranty I'd like to be able to revert to whatever set-up with the OEM map it is supposed to have before letting the dealer have it in for rectification, should the need arise, so that any claim does not get voided because I'm blamed for re-mapping the ECU. TBH I can't be bothered finding out; I just thought I'd seen a post stating that the download was the latest map.

Yes, they have a product, but no one answered my email inquiry.  I asked if it was compatible with US versions of the V7 III E4

I just emailed them about a kit for a E4 v9.   I received an answer in 12 hours.  She told me they don’t yet.   But didn’t give any anticipated time line.

Arrived!  A little bit of a story.  I went through the reflash process using the UpMap app and hit a bit of a snag...none of the coupon codes from GuareschiMoto worked for the one free map with the purchase of the interface unit.  In a panic, I paid full price ($700) and the reflash went smooth.  However, I was not happy with my "$700 order"....so I emailed them, and UpMap promptly refunded me with proof of purchase of the interface unit, but them they went one step further.  They asked if I had the full racing kit installed on my V7III Carbon Shine, in which I said, no, just the air filter top cover elimination kit, sprint filter, and Agostini exhaust with DB-killers removed.  Their reply was, "this other map would be more suitable for your configuration, we have added it to the app on your phone, no charge."   Wow, how cool is that!  This was a UpMap map I could not find for sale anywhere.  So now I am stoked to check out the race map already installed on the bike and the new one they added after!

The bike I’m looking at (possibly purchasing) today (2021 v7 Centenario) has the agnostini exhaust and been re flashed using an “upmap device”.  This will be a learning experience for me as I’ve never “flashed” a bike before or even understand it.  Stock exhaust is included with the sale along with an upmap device in case I want to bring it back to stock.  Should be interesting.

It should be fine; I did the same with my Special, albeit with Mistral exhausts. It improved the lower half power significantly. If you do find the exhaust sound not to your liking you can refit the originals and re-install the OEM map as long as the seller transfers ownership of the UpMap device to you via their website. TBH as long as the correct map was used for the exhausts fitted it should be great. It should have either EU or US map (depending where you are - they are not inter-changeable) and be either for aftermarket exhaust with baffles, or without, depending on whether or not the baffles are in place. I was pleasantly surprised at how much better the engine pulled on mine and, were I to buy another, I’d do the same mod again.

I’m glad for this but honestly shouldn’t Guzzi have a map for this?! :violent1:

I’m still under warranty and I’m living with mine by turning the throttle with more gusto but still...it does seem to be getting better. Is that even possible or just me?

My.02 anyway

Personally I find my Centenario runs better with the Upmap map. There was an improvement with the Guzzi upgraded map that 90% (my feeling) resolved the "hole" at 3 - 3,500rpm but the upmap has completely cured and improved pull (again my feeling) throughout the rev range.

I have Mistrals installed

There's a firmware upgrade & map update available for existing owners of the upmap & V7 850. If anything the Centenario now pulls even better than with the original version of the Upmap map. There's no email notification regarding the updates you just have to plug in the upmap and turn on the app.  10 minutes tops start to finish.

Well I’m late to the game as usual but I successfully bought an Upmap from GC and reflashed the bike this morning. Put my Italian to work but managed( after I realized there was an English version lol) Very pleased so far.

Used the aftermarket map no db killer. Much smoother throughout all gear changes and seems to have better or at least more linear power delivery.

Thanks to these posts I managed to avoid the pitfall of missing the wrong map. Thanks to everyone

I ordered my UpMap yesterday. Looking forward to it. Mistral exhausts with db-killers in already installed. They sound incredible. I unplugged the battery and connected again after a minute and the ride gets a bit smoother because the electronics adjusted the new exhausts by themselves. Do I have to unplug the batterie again before I use the upmap?

I didn’t unplug the battery. I can’t imagine it would hurt though. The instructions merely stated to reflash the bike cycle the key on off and presto. The instructions were pretty clear and I just followed them. Very pleased with the results. Running the zard exhaust without db killers and the ride is phenomenal. As stated make sure you get the us or European map based on your location and vin.

I agree, I've done the updated map from Gcorse and I think it runs even stronger/better than the original one they did which was quite good. I'm also running Mistrals with DB Killers in. I also installed a Sprint high flow air filter.

At this point I'm 100% satisfied with the mapping/power/torque/response/smoothness and don't plan to change anything.

I agree 100%. I got the UpMap kit today and loaded it up immediately. It was really easy to do. And it's just phenomenal what a difference it makes! I had a huge grin on my face the whole test drive! It feels like a new bike! It's money well spent. Never before has the investment in an accessory been so worthwhile.
@thankchpel: What high flow air filter do you use? I tried a DNA with the original exhausts but I couldn't feel a lot of a difference. Does it make a bigger difference with the Mistrals?

Glad it worked out. I’m running the K and N air filter. I like it and in mind it makes a difference. That being said I don’t have any numbers to prove it just that the bike seems to like it and is running well.

Not doubting any of the Upmap testimonies here, but my stock mapped V7-850 is the nicest running modern FI Guzzi I have ever owned, that is after I cured the hiccup caused by the evap system.  For once I don't feel the slightest urge to mess with the stock map.  The only change I have made is adding Mistrals with db killers left in.  It is one sweet running bike as is.

Oh that's interesting. How did you cure that hiccup? Did you get a warning by the evap system finding a leak? Because when I fist installed the Mistrals the ride was pretty rough in comparison to the OEM exhausts. It felt like I had to tame a stubborn goat.

My hiccup was cured with the evap system going to evap heaven.

The hiccup is a well documented issue that is caused by the evap system.

Taking the easy route I just capped off the evap control valve with a rubber cap, rather than removing the whole system.  Both approaches eliminate the hiccup.

Another problem with this system can be the tip over valve under the tank on the left hand line shown in Dave's picture. This can cause a vacuum build up in the tank. I noticed on my 850 an inrush of air whenever I pulled the cap on my first fill of the tank. I plan to either gut or remove the valve soon.
