to polish , or not to polish, that is the question.
« on: February 19, 2018, 01:40:52 PM »
My 98 EV is beautiful. Two toned blue. I've never waxed it. Paint is still perfect. But I now live in a 'rust belt'.

What to do?????

I have a blue one too. Last time I washed was last year , polish 1st time since owned that was 2yrs ago. At that time it had been 4yrs since it was washed. I don't believe in over doing it.

Polish! A pro show car guy turned me onto this stuff. Properly applied, stunning on his $10k paint jobs, even better on my 88 Volvo. Looks better, reduces work over the long term. Saves your elbow.

Zaino rocks..  :thumb:  The inital application is pretty labor intensive, but just how much labor can you do on a motorcycle?
I don't think I'll be doing a Zaino job on an airplane..

On our breaks in between flights we use to watch the ramp servicemen wash & wax the 737's.   Usually the swing shift guys.

It's a process. Click on Zaino beginners on the web site. That'll be the basic stuff you *have* to do. Basically clay bar,  old wax removal, sealant, protectant, gloss enhancer. (from memory) Like I said, labor intensive.

What to do?????

Add fuel.
Insert key.
Ignore dirt.

Keep it as clean and dry as you can.   Hose it off after any ride involving chemicals on the road, and dry it off before storing it under cover ....

Try wax on the paint and this stuff on the metal surfaces:

https://www.amazon.com/ACF-50-Anti-Corrosion-Lubricant-Compound-Aerosol/dp/B000P1C8UO

It has to be re-applied from time to time, but riders in the UK swear by this stuff. From the aerospace industry...

ACF-50 ROCKS.  Nothing takes abuse like the front of a snowplow and after 3 years my plow looks like new.  Everyone else's are rusted.

Had a neighbor who polished his parents black/yellow Buick repeatedly......... ..to the point you could see the paint coming off.

I don't polish my vehicles.  I wash them and then wax them if I do that at all.

Most vehicles nowadays have clear coat on them unless they are white.

Well i have to admit..i am one of those nuts  that devote time to cleaning and polishing my motorcycles .i think it goes along with mechanical maintenance and take pride in a well turned out bike , also a good cleaning can reveal problems to come.
there are many great products available that make the job easier and if you keep it up the amount of time spent is minimal, come resale it pays off aswell .
When touring which i do alot of i keep it to a minimum , riding is more important than anything else but when i return i go over the bike and start the process again .
frankly i think for the most part i am not alone in this and when i see a old V7 or a Vintage etc well kept it shows to me pride of ownership and compliments the original design of the motorcycle.

I applied ACF50 to my bike after I bought it.  Too soon to tell but everyone else raves about it.

The polish/sealant of choice in my garage!  It's only as labor intensive as you want to make it.  Their AIO is my "one step" go to product.  If you're feeling anal you can keep applying "toppers".
