Oddball Bikes
« on: June 26, 2019, 05:21:44 PM »
A motorcycle themed YouTube channel I subscribe to did a list of the 7 most oddball motorcycles ever made, and the Le Mans made the list. Just thought I'd share it for anyone interested:

He also mentioned that period road testers wrote about frame flex . Having devoured every motorcycle magazine of that era , I don't ever remember any talk of frame flex on a Tonti .

I'd be happy to own/ride any bike on this list.  Rather than "odd" I'd say they are "unique".

I had no knowledge either way about the frame flex issue. I did find it a bit strange that he chose the Le Mans, as I can think of a few Guzzis that were more "oddball" than that. Just wanted to share for fun and conversation.

His channel is mainly geared towards beginner and novice riders, so probably wouldn't interest many, here. I watch it mainly for some of the reviews he does, as well as his "It Came From Craigslist" series, which is always entertaining.

I think he said frame twist, not frame flex. He seemed to be  referring to the rotation (roll) of the whole bike when you rev it at idle:

EDIT: (quote from the video): "Reviewers at the time noted it had problems with the frame twisting; it was a strangely twitchy bike at low revs...."

Certainly reviewers talked about that endlessly.

What a boring video though. Almost nothing but a shot of his own dashboard as he rode around local boulevards.

When riding my Centauro, I tell people I went looking for the oddest bike I could find, to match the rider.

No doupt it, and really most other Guzzi's are a odd ball....  But Ive never heard about any flex issues at all with the frames on them...  Frankly rock solid stability is closest to the description..  That being said, I watch a lot of the guys vids...  some are pretty fun...  a little light on info, and facts...  not sure its about that though.

I get the impression that he's not ridden the bikes he talked about, probably not the Guzzi, certainly not the Brough.
