AMA isn't collaborating with Moto America?  Saw no road racing in the AMA site.

I don't think there is anything in the wide world of sports that looks tougher to do than race a one mile flat track.

Nothing more intimidating than a wooden fence coming at you at 100MPH on a mile dirt oval ."Don't look at it Dusty , look at where you want to go" Sure , only my grip on the seat is so ferocious I can't counter steer the damn bike  ::) :D Maybe Mr Glorioso could have helped  ;D

Write a letter of complaint to the Indiana State Fair. They're the ones who wouldn't schedule the Mile on the same weekend as the GP.

I already have my ticket to Indy as well as tickets to both Springfield Miles. I haven't got my ticket to DuQuoin because they're not available yet, but I will be there.

Flat track (especially a mile) is the only oval racing I can get excited about.

I'm with the spudmiester, any other racing doesn't even come close to racing the big dirt oval.

Moto GP is the best.  But Flat Track -particularly the mile- is real close.

I had head this but do not understand it.  I attended last year, and the Indy Mile was part of the State Fair festivities.  it seemed like a natural, to me.  With MotoGP in town that same weekend, it brought a lot of moto enthusiasts to The Fair.  So, what was the problem that they wanted to avoid?

Hey you. I have always wondered about this. And I'm pretty sure I asked you this in our first phone conversation. Is Dusty the name you were given at birth or did you get that name after a few laps on a dirt track?

I had head this but do not understand it.  I attended last year, and the Indy Mile was part of the State Fair festivities.  it seemed like a natural, to me.  With MotoGP in town that same weekend, it brought a lot of moto enthusiasts to The Fair.  So, what was the problem that they wanted to avoid?

That entire Fairgrounds is a complete cluster.

If you go to the race, you're in line for 30 minutes - hour while they take your $2 to park.  Apparently they can't include the parking fee into the race ticket.  Now, we're talking muggy Indy August, bikes are heat sinking and burning up before your eyes.  BTW- you're paying the same parking fee for a motorcycle that you would for a car, even though 4 bikes can fit in a car space.  (But the locals know how to sneak in from the east side and dispense with paying.)

And once you are in the grandstand, you can't see the front stretch because the grandstands sets too high to see unless you are in the front section of rows.  And you can't buy seats in the front section because it is always "sold out" even though these seats are the only group of seats in the entire grandstands that are half vacant.

And I won't bring up the time that they cancelled the race due to a tragic wind storm collapse of the temporary country music stage 2 weeks prior because there were still investigating said collapse.

This must be a testament to Hoosier efficiency.

I saw some great racing there.  Chris Carr execute a draft pass for the win.  I saw Kenny Roberts exhibition wow the crowd running his TZ750.  I saw the kid winning the single class get a $600 for the feature win and didn't have the money for his parents to travel and attend.  And one of those kids got killed when he went over the fence.

I've camped there too.  I had my travel trailer next to two young couples sharing a trailer that were part of some sect (they wore hats, lace and long dresses).  Man, they were partying hard, screaming and yelling and pounding out the Ozzie all night.   ???

The last time I went, the motorcycle I had just purchased had a flat on the way.  I went to air it up at the gas station and realized that I had forgotten my wallet.  It was a really fun asking the local neighborhood guys if I could borrow a quarter for air.  Actually, we all got a chuckle out of it.   ;D  It was really funny but by the time I got back to the trailer to get my wallet it was too late to go back.
