v85tt Top Gear
« on: August 05, 2022, 01:58:52 PM »
Greetings all.

The only thing I would like to change about my v85tt is the gearing. Specifically, I would like to turn 500-1000 fewer rpms when cruising at 70-75 mph Is anyone aware of a source/solution for a taller top gear?

Regards,
-Scott K.

I think you’ll find it a hopeless quest…
To successfully insert one different ratio into your gearbox while leaving the others standard, is a huge undertaking.
Also remember that forcing your bike to pull a taller gear for the perceived benefit of lower rpm, is not necessarily helping it.
Is that your motive ?

Even that wouldn’t have worked. He only wants to change ONE ratio.

I've thought the same on all my Guzzi's now and then, but I also like being in the fat of the torque for top gear roll ons, less need to downshift  :bike-037:

I'm looking for a thousand more revs in first gear.
You have to slip the clutch way too much when launching on a steep incline off road.

I was going to say the same thing.  I actually dropped my bike because of the need for more bottom end.  I would gladly sacrifice the top end speed for more low end grunt.

Agree, esp. if you're doing any slower off-road stuff. I will gladly trade off 500-1000 RPM on the highway for better bottom end.

Based on this thread I now understand why most dual sport / adventure bikes use a chain.
