I overall like it. I would ride one. The seat is something I might not like, might want one with more of a butt stop. The mufflers really have to go. Change them out to a more R bike look.

It’ll always look like a steaming bucket of unadulterated pus produced under licence in Thailand, no matter what you do..
At a pinch, you could jack the fuel cap up and put a different bike under it and you’d stand an outside chance I s’pose.

It is supposedly an homage to the venerable R5 from the thirties. It's a caricature of the original...I guess "BIG" is in.

Old beemers are lovely , but having owned a '55 model R50 , fairly certain the new model will work better .

I like the bike but pity its a typical boxer. I have nothing against the cilinders 180 degrees apart, but then at least compensate by using a 90 degree crank...

From experience I can say a floating seat can be really nice, if real. Like on the R27. I had on of those on my LM 3 and it was excellent. I know the ones on the HD sportsters are definitely fake.

Did BMW's from the 30-ies not have a pressed steel fram, not a tube frame ? My dads R35 is pressed steel...

Just imagine - a small retro-ish standard boxer approximately of the size of a smallblock V7 (perhaps a bit bigger), low-slung lines like the old R5, R68, R69 US (what a beauty that was). Light, not too many hp, shaft drive, not that expensive. Perhaps built where they now build the small types with chain drive to keep the price reasonable. And not such a fat miscreation. That would be something! Enough to give Triumph, Royal Enfield, Moto Guzzi something to think about.

I like the old school look and don’t care which brand offers it. Add a windshield, decent saddle and fender rack to strap on bag and I’d ride one and maybe own one.

It's clean. It's simple. It's low and long and the engine is the focus of attention. If they build it, I will buy one.

Nate

It IS interesting though...spoke wheels, oversized headlamp, muscular front end/oversized ?inverted forks, bobbed-seat and rear fender, low handlebars, dual symmetrical exhaust, velocity stacks, sparse electricals/cleaned up area aft of the engine, and speaking of engine: a big beautiful engine! I think I've seen this bike before

I like Boxers. The one in your photo looks like something some impoverished Rusky did with his old Ural and a cutting torch, then had it painted by a skilled bodyman.

It sure looks cool and I bet it runs good, but not my cup of tea, either. Looks uncomfortable and like other member mentioned, a little late to the party on factory custom retro bobber cruiser.  Looks a lot better than their last attempt at a chopper.

I saw it in person last winter at a motorcycle show in Portland.  Huge and awkward looking.

Why'd they stretch the frame so long? What's the point of all that distance between the transmission and the rear wheel?

Why couldn't they make a faithful updated copy of the R5?

I'm also curious what was done to keep those giant cylinders from ripping out of the block? Real low compression?

The R5 was a real motorcycle, not this goofy bit of nonsense.

A friend and I, when we first saw the concept R12C, wondered what BMW was thinking and knew it was a huge disaster. But it was supposedly the best seller when it came out, and for a few years after. So who knows?

I just know it looks stupid to me and goes against what I originally liked about BMW - form following function. Maybe I'm not understanding the function this one fills. And as has already been said, cruisers aren't my thing and the seating is all wrong.

Hey, I know this thing will perform well, and I love the topside pushrod tubes and bar-end lever pivots, but Art Deco styling notwithstanding, don't ya'll think they overdid it a little with the engine? Try to imagine it with the perfunctory chrome crashbars...
