Searching for 1989 LeMans Seat or Cover
« on: August 01, 2021, 10:13:39 PM »
I've been looking for the original style seat or cover for my 1989 LeMans. I bought an original brochure and it shows the seat has a red pinstripe on the perimeter, and white LeMans script on the left side.

Does anyone know where a cover can be purchased?

If not, does anyone know of a shop that could make one and recover it?

Here's a pic from the brochure I just got:

I had the same problem, best I could find  was this - from my post from June 22nd this year :

"So the original Lemans seat cover is starting to tear ( it probably has a few more years in it though, so I'm in no hurry).

I searched around to see if I could find a replacement cover, and the only thing I came up with was this : https://www.webrocketh.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=171358

It looks good ( but the colour would need to change) and the price is fair. The website doesn't read that well and the contact details are only an email address, which all screams "run away" to me.

Has anyone heard of this mob, or better yet, used them?

Yes, I could take it to an upholsterer, but if there is a ready made solution...

Any experience with these guys, anyone?"

No replies !

If anyone has some options I'm still  interested.

So you have one with the pinstripe and text?

Are the red and white simply stamped and painted, or are they something else, like embroidered script or a sewn-in bead of red trim?

It's a shame there is no available reproduction, but I suppose the demand is fairly small.

Maybe if I can find someone to make one, they'd be willing to make a few. I'd want to make it as close to original as possible.

Is anyone else interested if a small batch could be made?

The Mark IV doesn't have the text. It does have the embossed red line around the perimeter - which  IS just embossed and ink filled.

One of the replies to my earlier post mentioned how relatively thin / stretchy these covers are compared to other models, presumably to get around the tight corners.

I did try Old School Covers in the UK, but they dont / wont do them.

I'd be interested if a batch is made and price is reasonable.

Make Me an offer I can't refuse.  I also have the gas tank, side covers, rear seat tail, tail light.  Only 49 of this paint scheme produced. All new take offs from a bike that was rebuilt into a race bike by a Dealer when new.  Wrapped in the original factory plastic bags also.  So the story goes.  I used the sea foam and pan on my bike and had recovered.

I just sent a message.

Wow - only 49 of the Red and Black paint scheme. I had no idea it was so rare. Where do you find production numbers with that level of detail?

Thanks for that link. What a great quote about the bike. The author was comparing the flywheel effect to same vintage BMWs, then wrote:

"Like the BMW the Guzzi can only be ridden in one way, but perhaps more so in that the Le Mans will not suffer limp-wristed hesitance. Corners must be approached with ermm... confidence. The procedure is to pick your line and gear well before the corner, brake before peeling in then, if all has gone according to plan, gas it hard and drive out. At this stage the bike feels as if it's being swung from the inside of the corner on huge length of rope. Rock Steady."
