Guzzi LM4 Frame #VV*100003
« on: September 22, 2022, 11:02:13 PM »
Hoping someone can help me with my Guzzi LM4 frame number.  The frame is stamped VV*100003, which doesn’t fit in the number range for any Guzzi models.  It came from a collection and I was told it may be one of the three bikes sent to east coast dealer for racing at Daytona and wasn’t for public sale but I can’t confirm.  The frame neck has no VIN tag and no holes for the rivets so I’m further confused.  Any thoughts and any suggestions on how to research its history?

Thx!
Michael

"VV" is the code for the Lemans IV and V.

LeMans IV began at "VV 11111".

So, that sequence number you have, "100003"  is odd.  It should be five digits.

Can you add a photo of the frame number to this thread?

Spoke to original seller and it came from Stan Friduss and wasn’t supposed to be sold to public.  May be one of the bikes he raced.  Have to open the motor up and see what’s inside.  Here’s photo of frame neck:

Funny, I have frame number 1000004. No holes either in steering tube, but it does have a VIN plate glued to the frame (under the seat not a usual spot and it does have the full set of USA 17-digit MG numbers with VV in it and all, and it is labeled as 12/1984 which matches the date when I do a VIN search - (I crossed that off the first part on the image).

I bought the frame from a seller in CA a few years ago. The source was reliable, and the seller assured me it was legit and was just being parted out after so many years. I don't have a title for it nor bill of sale, but I'd like to get that done at some point.

Hmmm,...
My '86 LMIV title sez "ZGUVV... 100156".
I assume it's a typical LMIV made for import to the US.
It does have a lightened flywheel.  And was titled in FL before coming to WI about 25 years ago.

I think what Guzzambo was trying to figure out, which is the same thing I've been trying to figure out is why these frames don't have the holes for the VIN plate. All the LMIV models I think have the last 6 digits of the full 17 digit VIN plate stamped on the frame. I think, maybe some of these were brought over by owners directly from Italy which would not have the holes. Mine somehow got the US VIN plate, not in the normal US VIN plate spot though.

I'm nearly 100% sure all frames have some sort of a tag riveted to them regardless of the country if they are to be registered for road use.Certainly all the French and British Guzzi's I have owned or looked at have had them.
