If anyone is making the trek from near the Bay Area in California to a point somewhere near Oklahoma , and might have room to haul a motorbike , please let me know . There is no hurry on this, anytime within the next few months is fine . We can arrange for the bike to be moved a few miles on the California end , and we can pick it up in Kansas , North Texas , or somewhere in this general vicinity . Willing to help with expenses , and some parts will be available afterwards .
Yeah , a big favor , I know , just thought it might be worth a try .
Oh , it isn't currently operable , but it is a roller .
Thanks in advance .
Dusty
-
Not even a "Heck no , we ain't doing you a favor" Kind of disappointing
Maybe I should have mentioned why we need to transport this bike from CA to the middle of the country on the cheap .
The idea is for a raffle bike for next year's Cedar Vale . Now , the old girl needs a bit of work , apparently a transmission bearing has failed , and she will get a new clutch while we are in there .
This bike is still a good runner , and has been well maintained , but if we add 500 bucks shipping onto the cost of fixing her , you can see the problem .
I have enlisted the aid of two old line Guzzi mechanics , and we have a nice shop just North of Wichita to use , only a few miles from Cedar Vale . This is all volunteer , and I will purchase the parts needed .
So , we can shuttle this old girl out , there is no hurry , we have 6 months to get her to Kansas .

Sorry for the lack of replies. If I could I would. If I was retired and had the time, it might e a fun trip!
Good luck!!

I appreciate that Chris , but by the time we pay for that we can get it shipped .
What we are attempting to do is keep the expense to a minimum so we can raffle the bike for some small profit for the city and WG .
I should mention , the bike will likely bring between $800. to $1,000. , so spending 400 bucks to get it here just doesn't pencil out . However , a good running BB Stone is still a very usable motorbike in the modern world .
Dusty
-
Why not do the work in California, and sell it from there? Obviously, it won't be you doing the work Dusty, but it shouldn't be too hard to find volunteers for such a good cause.

Because Cedar Vale is in Kansas
Honestly , from a logistical perspective , and as a practical matter , it is just easier to get it out here.

Big Block Stone, a pretty dang nice Guzzi. If I win it, I'll give it to a kid that needs it..
It could also be a boost to the attendance at the CV rally. "Must be present to win.." I like the idea..

Well , it did occur to me that a raffle bike might increase attendance
Seriously , several folks are already volunteering to help , first would be Guzzi4me for donating the bike , then Gliderjohn for offering his nice climate controlled shop , the Motochuck 250 and probably JB Taylor with tech help (both very qualified) . Hoping to make this a group effort to keep cost down.
Chuck , this would make a great bike for someone in need , a wonderful ,basic , honest old ditch pump model that was a daily rider until about 4 months back when the trans started acting up . It has Hagon shocks as a plus . Will get some pics up hopefully .

I would like to help out Dusty but I would need an air fare to do it.

But now consider this , you could buy a raffle ticket , and maybe win it , then leave it in OKC to ride in the eventual championship parade for the Thunder  Maybe young Mr Adams can help us out, he is making enough bank to fly about half of NZ over for the celebration .
Just a thought

What an excellent idea! :thumb:
Don't think it would get much traction somehow Dusty. :undecided:
Thunder went close but no cigar this year sadly.

Sadly my niece no longer works for the mayor's office , can't even get free tickets now :weiner:
Still , young Mr Adams could help a couple of brothers out , right ?

Wow Dusty, I am impressed. What a great Cedar Vale scheme.
Is there any chance this bike could be ridden back to Kansas? Or is the transmission totally kaput?.

Oh I could try riding it back , if you'll promise to come to the rescue when the trans gives up
Dusty
-
THAT might be the cheapest solution...😁
-
I dunno. If a bearing is making itself known.. I'd be leery of taking it very far. The transmission *may* not be hurt..yet.. but hardened balls going through it would get it's undivided attention.

We could raise more money by conducting a pool selling chances on how far he'll make it!

What about setting up Paypal account and we all contribute $10.00. 50 contributions will solve the shipping problem. Count me in if you decide to go with this idea.

Yeah, I'm with you. Haven't done my normal donation this year, so this might make up for it a bit.

Happy to help out this way too. And it'd be cheap for each person. That's the Guzzi content. ;)
-
OK , we have the beginnings of a plan . For those of you wanting to donate to transportation costs, please contact me via PM . Still kind of hoping we can shuttle this thing out to Kansas , the "Guzzi" way , but one of our members has generously volunteered to make up any shortfall in transportation funds . He has sworn me to secrecy , so don't ask
Still working out the logistics , and don't want to over promise and under deliver . This isn't a get rich quick plan .
So , if you want to participate in this plan for us to likely lose money () , here is your chance. Like my friend says , "us old guys should be good for something"
Dusty
-
So far we've had 3 folks offering to help finance this deal , is anyone else interested ? Contact me by PM if you are willing .
Just heard the old girl run over the phone , she started right up , and sounded great . The bike will come with National Cycle bag mounts , NLA , and an official MG windshield . Add some bags and she will be ready to travel :thumb:

A hell of a lot of talking and no commitment.
In Oz, some bugger would just get off his arse and say " no worries, I'll get the ute and a slab " and we'll go.
Honestly, how far is it..?

Funny you should ask , the guy who has it now said he would give it a quick bath and post a pic . Maybe tomorrow or Sunday . This isn't a museum piece , it has patina , but the price is right .

There is an old Mexican parable that goes like this .
An old Mexican fisherman goes out to sea every morning at daybreak in his ancient wooden boat, fishes for a few hours until he has caught enough fish to make his day , then goes home to help his family with chores and play with his grandchildren . He laughs easily , and is happy and content .
One day a wealthy American begins studying the old Mexican fisherman's routine and decides to advise the fisherman on how to be more successful . He tells the Mexican gentleman that he admires his dedication , and if he would only obtain a more modern boat and equipment and work harder for a few years he could then have the time to play with his grandchildren .
I am the fisherman .
Dusty
-
Dusty, you have me thoroughly confused. Are you saying we can now donate Mexican fish??!
Frozen?

That's some goofy looking money right there, Dusty. Dead presidents don't wear glasses. Be careful with it.
I'm up for a road trip but I have no ute. If someone is inclined to drive and needs a wingman let me know.
It may interest you to know Rodekyll that not everything revolves around the Divided States of America.
The image of the "President" is actually that of an Australian immigrant that went on to become a highly successful business person and philanthropist.
We could do with a few more like her here on Wildguzzi in exchange for a few freeloaders in for a cheap ride at others expense.
Just sayin'.
Or were you joking...?
-
Did she really steal a horse when she was 13?
Boy, that beats chopping down a cherry tree !
-
Can we make some attempt at staying on point here ?
If you don't want to participate , then don't . No one is twisting anyone's arms , this is purely voluntary , in fact the idea of a fundraiser was raised by a member who sees this as worthwhile. Either you agree , or you don't , no need to argue the hows or whys . Understand ?

I just planted the seed and stood back . The group has watered and cared for the result . Remember , Guzzi4me (Jeff) is donating the the motorbike , Gliderjohn is providing a very nice workshop and his hospitality , GJ's wife will put up with us  Motochcuck250 and Flynguzzi are providing their mechanical skills , fubarguzzi will keep us entertained , and the "family" seems willing to help finance the project . Even Marley the dog will assist by wagging his tail and being the great dog that he is . Likely I will just be in the way .

As you can see she is no garage queen! The seat needs recovering but other than that she's in pretty good shape for 99k miles. Note the National Cycle bag mounts. They go with her.
Will also mount this windshield. Had to take it off for storage space requirements.

No snide comments about my junky garage....seems my daughter thinks it's her personal storage space!! Which I guess it is!! At least Laurie can get her Outback in the garage still...
Anyway, thanks to everyone for their interest and support. I do believe this will be a good daily rider for someone and thanks to Dusty for co-ordinating this. This Guzzi community is like no other!
Ride safe and often,
Jeff

Should provide enough for some libations while pondering whether to use blue, purple or black duct tape on the seat!

OK , so Jeff has gone all shy on us again , here a few more details on the bike .
She has a set of Hagon shocks that were installed a couple of years ago , and a new rear brake rotor installed about the same time .
When we are done with the refurbishment she will have a new clutch , U joint , rear main seal , and if the bevel box needs attention we will deal with that also . She will have a new set of nice round black Shinko tyres also . In other words , the old girl will be ready to go for the proud new owner who wins her .
Gonna repeat the contact info .

Donation made!
I am hoping this can be a regular thread that shows the progress and work being done on the bike. A project thread if you will. That way the bike can be famous and help educate the masses on fixing it up. The fact that it is a fund raiser that could help our favorite forum and Cedar Vale to improve the rally experience is a big bonus.

Not so easy or expensive when you're not in the USA. I'm poised to contribute, but need a bank account number. How hard is this? I've paid Luap a few times this way. Perhaps I send it to him, and he redistributes it to the fund?

The proceeds will be distributed to WG , the library in Cedar Vale , and the fund to pay for improvements to Hewins Park .
Or maybe a trip to Mexico
It would be very cool if you and the vertically-challenged-one could attend from Germany next year,

Thanks for the response Dusty!
Never been to Mexico! I'll take that trip.
We actually moved to Wisconsin from Germany for family reasons, long story, but we'll be here in Madison for awhile yet I think.
I'll keep the rally in mind.

Just saw this & spot read replies. Do you have a plan to get the bike to Wichita? I'm driving from near Reno Sept 1st or 2nd using I-40 most of the way to NC. If you don't have a plan yet & can get the bike to Reno I'll take it no charge. Put transport $ elsewhere.
-
Am really excited that Giada will be taken care of and will find a new home. Someone is going to win a great rider!
Laurie and I plan to attend next year. Dusty said I can pull the number from the hat!
Of course I have been forbidden to buy a raffle ticket by someone...
And the bag mounts are the no longer available National Cycle mounts. Bags themselves are still available.
Ride safe and often...

I'll ride it up to Madison and give it to Joe and The Hobbit when I win it..

Yes Dale , the transport is dealt with . We do appreciate the offer .
A few of you have already purchased a raffle ticket , thanks . As stated before , $20.00 a pop , and how does everyone feel about a bulk discount ? Something like 3 for $50.00 , 6 for $80.00 .
Dusty
-
Shameless bump .
The raffle will actually start on Sept 25 2018 , probably not close it until May 10 2019 , which is the Fri during the rally . This should give everyone plenty of time to make a decision .
As for whether or not it will be necessary to be in attendance at the rally to win , that won't be required , although we certainly hope everyone can make it .
Dusty

She is being loaded right now , watch this thread for a picture . Woo Hoo :thumb:

So, The Rally you're referring to is Cedar Vale. And it looks like you're slipping it a week in 2019 as compared to the timing of the same event in 2018; ie, CV in 2018 was May 3-6 and in 2019 will be May 9-12. Is that correct?

After suffering tire issue's with the toy hauler then finding an independant tire shop that was open on a Sunday that had the right size tires Eric and Heather finally arrived in Lathrop CA.
Took just over an hour to make sure both bikes were properly secured for the trip and all associated gear stowed properly.
During that time had a very pleasant conversation with Eric and Heather. They are really nice folks. I thank them for doing this!

Glad I got one last ride with Giada earlier in the day before her new adventure begins!! After a good going over she will be ready to share new roads with her new rider.
Also sent along the MG windshield that served me well and even found a bike cover.
For the price of a raffle ticket the new owner will be getting a daily rider...not a garage queen! She will be mechanically sound after her refit.
If plans work out I will be at Cedar Vale and will draw the winning ticket.
THANKS to everyone that contributed to the shipping fund and thanks to Eric and Heather for pushing on through issues to make this happen.
I will miss her but wish her well with her new adventure!
Jeff

Hopefully Eric's blood pressure is back to normal
Thanks Jeff , we will look after your old sweetheart , and give her a good home .
Oh , your other ex is doing well , she gets to stretch her legs and strut her stuff in front of a new audience this weekend , we will make you proud .

Will post a few pictures soon. It came with a windscreen, what appears to be a quality bike cover with storage bag and a few other items.
Bike appears solid, frame paint and drive shaft assembly paint are like new. The tank is badly faded and with surface scratches on the rear upper third of the tank, like many zipper scratches or dirt under a tank bag that shifted. Front seat needs recovered. Front fender has one noticeable scratch on the rear area. Some paint flaking on the engine case. Did not notice any dents or creases.
One with patience and a bit of skill could probably make this bike look quite nice with a decent rattle can paint job.

We are planning to go through the raffle bike this next weekend. When the crew (Dusty, MotoChuck250 and FUBAR) help to get my T-3 back on the road a couple of years ago my grandson observed from the Norge and napped on the deck chairs with FUBAR. This year he is ready to supervise from the T-3. He was also getting a feel for the raffle Stone and ready for another FUBAR nap.

Actually it is a 64 (first year). It belonged to a cousin that taught me to ride it at 10 years old. He passed and his wife shipped to me from Minot ND. Needs a lot of work.

Buy up those tickets, cause you can't win if you don't get a ticket. And you don't have to be present to win, right?

No m you don't have to be present to win , although it might make collecting it easier . The PO , will award the winner the bike , and sign over the title .
Have we mentioned it comes with Hagon shocks , and those NLA National Cycle bag mounts . John Henry informs us that the National Cycle windscreen is also *the berries* .

Chuck decides to rework the wiring harness...I decide to work on a cocktail...
The new battery had the terminals on the opposite ends per the original battery so had to get some more slack in the engine ground. Not a big problem.
Did a small adjustment in the throttle body sync, and the bike seems to run pretty well.

FUBAR, Chuck and Chris. Was picking up in the shop today. Found a few extra items that I don't think are mine.
FUBAR - Your flask, empty of course. Also a small adjustable wrench with yellow handle?
Chuck or Chris, there is a LL Bean vest.
I didn't expect gifts so I thought I would post. FUBAR, when you leave a flask it is suppose to be full.

Thank you for your concern,I've decided to take wifey +our together precious children(8) with us as i'll be returning with your wood burning thingy. As I'm doin steering bearings on the raffle bike the chillens will have lots of time to take in the sites.I figure about 2-3 weeks should do it,don't worry about our precious little ones as they are all under 9yrs old and used to caring for themselves
-
Marley will keep the kiddos herded somewhere on the property. Just don't let one of them fall in the pond or lake as Marley does not like to swim and will not out preform Lassie.
We will need to try out the overhauled fire place. Did you tune it for more BTU?
GliderJohn
-
 Mornin Johnnie, the ponds are not a problem as(7) of the precious ones are allergic to water, little Johnny(the 1 with dirty face +drooley nose) is into his DRUMSET so they will prolly just play with him.On a side note however, wait till u hear his little(4 yr old)rendition of-----WHEN THE MOON COMES OVER THE MOUNTAIN,as sung by KATE SMITH :thumb:
The fire burner apparently has more than enough BTU's--- I do believe the problem lies more directly within the berromisfecic situlatin rodulluctor or as they say here in Nebraska-----it aint gettin enough air Clyde !!!So we will try relocating the berromisfecic situlatin rodulluctor 4 degrees. Before I forget,I promised the kiddies they could take their twin ST.Bernard (Pete+Repete)puppies along ,they are nearly house broke, only problem I see is they are kind of used to sleeping in a large bed ,do u suppose they mite share your bed??
-
Naw...ain't sharing the bed. That's why I have carpeted floors. The dog and cat get the bed.

We are receiving requests from members who can't actually attend re purchasing raffle tickets . So we've been thinking about how to handle a situation where someone not there winning the bike . Just a couple of thoughts , we can sell the motorbike to an attendee for a small profit to the winner like Wes S did a few years back at the Datil Rally , or there is storage available in Cedar Vale if the winner wants to pick it up at a later date . Anyway , we can work this out . Some have mentioned giving the bike to a bikeless person , which seems a generous notion , just something to consider . Thanks guys for participating .

We are receiving requests from members who can't actually attend re purchasing raffle tickets .
I'm located off of Interstate 44 at mile marker 251 (near St Louis) and will be attending Cedar Vale with truck/trailer and room for another bike.
Anyone on my route or "close enough" could get free delivery. I also could store the bike.
Just sayin'

Bert Remington won the raffle bike , and has generously offered it up for sale in the form of a donation to the board . We have settled on a price and a purchaser .
Congratulations to David Welch (Sickbay 987) , a long time member of the Guzzi family . You may remember that David and his wife Colleen lost their '95 California in an accident coming home from the last National in Iowa , so this seems fitting . David had purchased raffle tickets for the bike, and seems to be excited to return to the Guzzi world after a short absence .
