BlowBy
« on: August 17, 2015, 02:50:46 PM »
So, as noted in my oil change from hell thread, when I ran the engine with the dipstick removed (fresh fill to measured capacity) I got enough of a pulsing wind out of the dipstick hole to put a nice oil mist over everything.  Is this normal on these engines with their small crankcase volume or do I have a problem?  It really didn't smell strong like blowby, I am hoping it is just compressor effect from piston displacement..
C'mon, one of you gullible Norge owners go out with a rag and pull the dipstick and start the engine and tell me what happens to you..

[atavar], check your serial numbers on your engine/frame.

If it ends in either a letter or a numerical designation, there may have been a recall addressing this very issue.

That's the combustion chamber of the turbo shaft. It is supposed to be on fire. You just don't usually see it but the case and fairing fell off.

It's a design feature to waterproof your boots.  On one side only.

It is normal. And no I would never do that.

(Pay no attention to those stains on the wall.......)

I assume it is windage and the simple displacement of the pistons, and less about blowby.

Shared crank pin 90*-V twin.

Crankcase volume varies by about 2/3rds of swept volume between its maximum, when the crankpin is at 12 O'clock and its minimum when the crankpin is at 6 O'clock. Hence the pumping action. On something like a straight four or other multis with crank pins at 180* crankcase volume remains almost constant. On a boxer twin it varies by the full swept volume every revolution.

Gawd, it's sexy when you talk like that. Do you have a CD for sale or something ? I know some women that would respond very positively.

I think you simply have a problem of displacement!   :boozing:

Hey babe, lets go to the bedroom works for me, but she understands displacement and no explanation required.  Oh... I'm also not married.
