New Fuel Injectors on 1200Sport
« on: January 20, 2022, 12:15:01 PM »
I needed to replace my Y fuel line under my gas tank and In doing so the other week we broke one of the fuel injectors but that was a good thing! I ordered two new injectors and replaced them last night and the results were amazing. No more popping during deacceleration, the engine is smoother, even at idle and I sense better throttle response. I guess when your injectors are 14 years old, new ones make a big difference! Looking forward to see if gas mileage changes.

Good stuff Willow.
Mind if I ask who you went through to get those?

Where did you buy the injectors?

It's usually cheaper and just as effective to simply have them cleaned. What did you pay for them? Some are very expensive new even using equivalent automotive ones. Side flow injectors on 8 valve Guzzis and some Ducatis are also a bit painful to get cleaned.

Like I started this thread,  I needed one fuel injector to replace the broken one on my 1200 Sport.  Called my closet Guzzi dealer. He said they were $165 and he might have one but after checking, he did not. If he did, I would have driven 2 hrs round trip to buy it!  He said if there were any in the states it would be up to 3 weeks to get in and if ordered overseas, 4 months!

He mentioned that if I checked the number on the injector, I might be able to find it elsewhere. After a google search, I found that Harley uses the same injection on one or several of their bikes. I called the Harley dealer and yes they do use them, they're $65 but they don't have any in stock and not sure when they would get any in.

I did an Amazon Prime search and found them for $17. I ordered three... replace two and have one as a spare.

Like I mentioned, after installing both new injectors, the bike runs great. So I ordered two more just in case I can't get them again.

That's a good price!

I found a couple last year for my Norge on Ebay:  Paid $58 bucks for two of them...works perfectly!  Shows the part number compatibility below.

Yea that is a killer price, not worth cleaning them for that money.

I have an '08 Sport as well. Might you have a link for the amazon injectors?

Thanks!

Caveat Emptor.

These are cheap knock-offs. I know a guy who used them in his Sport and it was over-fuelling. The flow rate is not the same as a real Weber-Marelli IWP 162.

I’ll keep an eye on the two I installed. Thanks for the heads up

I'd put in new outer plugs and check them at different throttle openings or not they should be consistant w/old ones. The no more pop on decell should tell you they are richer .

Of course you could always take them to an injector specialist and he can put them on the cleaning and testing rig and measure the flow and check the pattern. You can then compare the flow rate against the stock injector figures which are readily available. Would only cost peanuts to do while you wait most probably. Getting cleaning, flow and pattern checks done is cheap so a quick run on the rig wouldn't be expensive and then you'd know what these ones are like if it's a concern. I'm currently building a rig for cleaning and testing side flow injectors which are a bit of a pain to get done commercially.
