V700 Speedo Cable. What's this Ferrule do?
« on: May 20, 2022, 07:50:22 AM »
I have a new Speedometer Cable for my V700 from MG Cycle.  The "gearbox" end needs some assembly.  There is the female adapter and a brass ferrule.  It looks like you have to strip the rubber back until the adapter fits,  but what is the ferrule for?

Pictures would help.  Is this a do it yourself cable?  I have seen a few types where you have to cut them to length and then crimp on a fitting for the end you cut.  I thought most cables use a brass ring at the speedometer head to hold the cable in the meter.  Not sure what you are dealing with.

The brass ferrule clamps down on the cable when the "female adapter"/nut is tightened, keeping the cable secured in place.

The outer housing on some cables I've bought are a bit undersized and the brass ferrule won't do it's job no matter how tight the nut is. In those instances, I slip two o-rings on in place of the ferrule.
