If you really want them to be private, you MUST reply within the forum and not the email notification about the PM. Otherwise, they come to me.

7-10 per day still. Not sure what else I can do. The notification even tells you to NOT reply in email.

That's ridiculous. Buncha unsavvy luddites/old farts?

Can you disable the 'reply' function to the notification?  I DONT want to be notified whenever there is a response, or even if I have a PM, I already get WAY too many e-mails. Perhaps a weekly 'walk of shame' posting of the offenders?

When I first read this I have to admit I didn't quite grasp what you were saying, so I am going to try to say it another way in the hope of making it more clear for some us:

When you get an email saying you have received a Private Message from Wildguzzi, DO NOT REPLY TO THE EMAIL.  Instead, go to the Wildguzzi forum, log into your private messages, and reply to the actual message from the message board.  Hope that helps

Here's what the email notifications say when you receive them in email:

IMPORTANT: Remember, this is just a notification. Please do not reply to this email.

I've tried wording it 1000 different ways. This is about as simple as I can get it...

Sounds like a board feature that

(A) A lot of people don't want

and

(B) is a big hassle for you to maintain.

Can it simply be turned off, either by you for everyone, or by individuals who are already getting all the Emails they want?

It can be turned off in your profile settings under "Modify Profile/Personal Messaging/Notify by email every time you receive a personal message:"

Well thank you very much.   I went to "Profiles" to change it, but stopped at the "Notifications" option, didn't look at the one right below it .... !   Fixed for me now, anyway.

Thank you Alan - it made no sense to me till you explained it.

Luap - there must be a way to direct emails from notifications to the spam folder. Perhaps send an automatic reply stating the message can't go through - it needs to be entered on WG?

I thought I wasn't the sharpest knife in the drawer, but I never made that mistake (I don't think).

That's a good idea ... if a misdirected Email that the sender THOUGHT was an answer to a Private Message went into Limbo, and the intended receiver never got it, and confusion ensued ...

... people would self-correct pretty quickly and the problem would go away, I'll betcha.

I changed mine, in case I was an offender this morning. I get a cup of coffee and check my emails first thing. May not have had brain engaged.. not an unusual thing.

Yeah I could disable it. Then I'd receive 1,000 emails wondering why...

Pretty simple to follow instructions in my book.

If I did that, I wouldn't get notifications of when someone sent me a PM because it would be in spam...

Pretty simple to follow instructions in my book.

Well, apparently not, based on the results you're seeing .... I've screwed it up myself, because I got in a hurry and forgot that I was on Email and not on the WG site ....

BUT since each of us has now learned how to turn the function off just for ourselves, that point is sort of moot ....

You'd have to figure out a way to differentiate between the two - the false PMs to WG and those to you. There must be differences so that yours wind up in your inbox, while the others go to a different folder where they're automatically returned to sender.
