I can't keep it a secret any longer!!
« on: April 03, 2020, 11:42:47 AM »
When the V9 first came to US dealers I got a test ride at WindyCity International, it was escorted but enough to give me a tast of what they were all about.  I liked it, but wasn't really in the market.  Flash forward to this past December,  I got word from somewhere on this very board that Cadrecycle.com was having a "blow out sale on v9 Roamer.   I contacted Enzo via text as to the nature of his sale.  He was great about answering questions, and confirmed the bikes were indeed $5500, with no setup fees or extraneous BS fees, the only extra was a few hundred dollars for freight!  This also comes with Free delivery within 250 miles, I live about 280 from Cadre, so a small delivery fee was added with a tip for the driver.    I told my wife, who bless her heart still can't understand why one would need more than one bike, that this was a stunningly good deal!  She surrendered to my wishes with very little pushback, and the light was green!

Enzo was closing for the Christmas/New year season on the 20th, and said to get that price we had to get it off the floor and under my ownership by then.  So on the 17th of Dec, a nice kid should up in a Cadre truck with a rockin white Roamer in the back!  We signed a few papers, and it was in my driveway.  Because of the not to bad winter this year I had the chance to put close to 200 miles on it.

First the not so great, I found the rear shocks to be to harsh on anything but minor irregularities, I weigh around 240 LB so, I can't imagine what it would be like for you little fellers!

Second, the great, the engine is near perfect!  It is very similar, yet different from any Carcano derived Guzzi I have ever ridden, and I have ridden quite a few.  Its acceleration isn't going to stretch anyones arms, but we all know that.  However the torque is right there from just above idle, it has substantially more immediate grunt than my 1100, the 1100 will take it in a drag, but the Roamer would get the hole shot and stay there for a decent bit, I believe.   What it has is wonderfully easy to access power all over the power band, there is less need to shift, although the engine is so fun to rev, I find I choose to let it rip more than not, unless puttering around town, where it is also completely happy.  The motor has a feel to it that I find super satisfying, I'm not sure how to explain, I haven't ridden a new era v7 so perhaps they share a similar feel?  The motor, to me, is more than the sum of its parts on this machine.

I used to think that maybe I was a bit too big for it.  But then I realized I'm a little to big for almost every M/C I have ever had, I'm just not a fan of really large bikes that I likely would look to fit better. <shrug>  But the seat height is only about a 1/2 inch lower than the stock Breva 11, and the Roamer has a longer wheel base.  It's nearly a 100 LB less weight than most big blocks, and that part is very noticeable pushing it around the garage.  It has a much different ride feel than my beloved B11, the fork is not as beefy, and the front end feels a bit more reactive to the road.  The chassis and suspension are not as sophisticated as a CARC and you can tell that when riding hard through technical roads, but it does perfectly well for an old school standard, and much more so after I added a set of Ikon rear shocks.  Enzo offered the bike set up with either the more forward American style pegs, or the EU rear mounts, I opted for the rear mounts, which are are very comfortable mid mount leaving the knee bend just a smidge more than 90 degrees.  It's a very fun machine to ride!  It reminds me in many ways of my much missed Bassa.

I added a set of Ikon shocks, which lucky for me were on sale at MG Cycle for 20% off at the time!
A Dart Marlin wind screen.
Givi rack, and crash guards.

I was planing to keep it a secret from my local Guzzi brothers, and show up to a Breakfast with it, but do to current conditions, that seems like it will just be a bit too long for me to keep quiet.

Congratulations on a great ride
Last time I was in NZ I got to share Kiwi-Kev's V9
At first the tank looked a bit weird but it soon grows on you.
The tank size is adequate, I found we were filling up at the same time except I was adding half as much again.

Welcome to the V9 club. :thumb:
I picked my Bobber from Enzzo last August. Traded my 12' NTX for it. Best thing I have done as it was time for downsizing due to age and health issues. The V9 is just what I needed to keep on the road for a few more years.
