If memory serves correctly, Honda was dead serious about racing flat track back then. They took a CX, sawed off most of it, bored it, and turned it 90 degrees. I think it had teething problems and minimal success, but Honda wasn't afraid to through everything they had at a project.

The RS wasn't based on the CX . Two different breeds of cat , although you are correct , Honda did start out with a modified CX .
