Whilst on this subject, am I correct in thinking that the fuel tank sender is adjustable?
I think that it is possible to slacken the lock nut and screw the sender further in or out of the tank to adjust the level at which the light comes on.
I would be grateful if somebody could confirm this as mine comes on by the time I have 120 miles showing and I would like to tweak it if possible.
Thanks!

good point.  I replaced my sender after the tech burned up my original one, the low fuel light now comes on at about 120 miles whereas previously at about 135.

Not scientific, but on my 2001, the petcock is on the left side of the tank, rearward. So, I imagine that on a downhill ride, the petcock would be getting less fuel, as the tank nears empty.

Also, there is a center reverse valley on these tanks, where the frame spine runs through. Not sure if some fuel gets caught on the right side of the tank, also when the fuel is getting low..

So I have a '98 EV and get the light about 3.5 gallons into a tank that was topped on the centerstand.

Anyone have any idea how much of the 5 rated gallon capacity is actually available? Can the tank be run to completely empty?

Airplane guys rate tanks to absolute capacity and usable fuel capacity. Wondering what those numbers are on a '98 V11EV?

I always measure 4.7 gallons. That was when it stops, and more than once. Oops. :thewife:

Still own all 3.  Mpg all around low 40's.  I don't ride slow.  These are the results of

1)  '80 Convert.  Idiot light went out.  Never repaired has manual petcock with reserve.

2)  '97 Cali 1100i.  Idiot light works but not accurate.  Has range of 176 miles before out of gas.  Guess how I know.  :embarrassed:

3)  '14 Cali 1400 Touring fuel with idiot light works.  I suspect not accurate.  Idiot light comes on after 3 gallons used.

What does work on all of my bikes is after 90 minutes of riding/100 miles.  Stretch, hydrate, eat & refuel.  Works on double manual petcock Moto Guzzi bikes too.
