Austrian Moto GP races this weekend
« on: August 13, 2016, 02:38:24 PM »
Today qualifying will be on BeIN @ 3:30 pm Pacific time.   Race repeat will be @ 6:30 pm Sunday pac. time.  This is a new track for all racers this year so who knows who is going to win it.  So far the Ducatis seem to have an advantage speed wise but that may or not mean anything in the actual race results since they have a  propensity to self destruct this year.

The qualifying was more exciting than most races.

Someone breaks up the team party by qualifying 2nd.

Marquez has a horseshoe up his butt this year, so I'm picking him to win, despite running in 6th for most of the race. Crazy Joe takes out Dovi and Valentino with 5 to go. Jorge gets hit with a drop of water and drops to 12th. Crutchlow will crash somewhere between lap 2 and the end. Pedrosa will resort to stuffing his shorts with lead fishing weights to get some heat in the tire. The Suzuki's will remember that they are Suzuki's and drop to 7th (both of them, in a strange paradox). One of the satellite Ducati's will run as high as 2nd, before crashing out. Then another one will do the same thing. Then another one. And another one. All of them will do this. Smith will run off the track 3 times, and get lost in the parking lot. Pol Espargaro will pass Smith as he runs off, then crash from 5th, 3 laps later. Miller, Bradl, and Bautista will fight for the last 2 podium spots, but somehow manage to finish 14th, 15th and 16h, despite being 3 of the last 6 people on track. Jorge will recover from the drop of water on his visor to finish 2nd, and widen the gap between hime and Valentino. Pedrosa will cross the line 3rd, despite what will later be described as severe chafing.

I'll say that Marquez is a tough little sucker crashing in practice, getting his shoulder dislocated, and then qualifying 5th by nearly crashing again, low siding and picking the bike up with his elbow on the same injured arm.  He's a gamer.

But it was all Ducati show and then Rossi puts in a super lap for 2nd.  All of it coming on the last lap.   Quite a show.

Yea, the announcers got pretty excited.  Almost sounded like the race instead of qualifying for it.  :azn:

Not your typical Moto GP race.  2 Ducatis leading and 2 Yamahas chasing them.  No Hondas really in contention.    5 bikes jumped the start and had to do a ride thru because of it.   :thewife:   Iannone won his 1st Moto GP race !!!   :boozing:  Too bad next year he'll not be on a factory Ducati due to his previous antics.

I just want to know what scooter was that pushing Lorenzo after he ran out of gas?  I want one of those.

Ion66, that was almost as good as the race.  One drop would do it.

Email Randy Mamola he was the rider on the scooter so he should know.

yeah....I saw the race, so why is that directed to me?   My first post was about the Rossi qualifying in 2nd.  I saw the quals (which was very exciting since all of the action happened on the last lap) and the race where  Maniac Joe did a great ride.
