New to me V9 Roamer
« on: March 22, 2022, 07:09:10 PM »
I asked last week about the V9 and any significant problems and found only encouragement so I brought a 2017 V9 Roamer home today. I live near Sacramento and it was near San Luis Obispo so I drove a trailer down today and brought it back. Here is a picture of her in the prior owner's garage that is way cleaner than my garage. She has just under 2K miles and the prior owner is a really nice 73 year old who prefers sports bikes and has a couple already, including a Norton Commando. I look forward to your help and already have a few things in the mail.

About 15 miles to your east looks to be a great area to break in that V9.

Safe to say, with a garage like that the prior owner took great care of that V9.  Congratulations, and welcome to WG!

Sweet!!   Looks like you have the forward controls, the 17s could be had with either.   I found them to far forward for me, but some guys really like them.  If you end up thinking the mid mounts would be better, they are a dime a dozen on Ebay and such.

Congrats on your new bike. I bought my Roamer in 2016, pushing 60k miles now. This Roamer is my 4th Guzzi, first small block and I ride it as a grocery getter, canyon carver, cross country rambler, you name it. It has been a fine motorcycle for me. I wish you a similar experience with your new Roamer. Pic is my roamer in the rain last August at Datil, NM.

Chatmanx, are you going to do your own maintenance? You'll find this forum a super source of information about any aspect of your bike. These guys are hard to stump! I've done everything myself until my V7's final drive convinced me it was NOT going to stop leaking, when I sent it to Jim Hamlin, in CT. Almost nothing is beyond the ability of a willing home mechanic. Many of us small-block guys changed the fuel filter in the fuel tank. Most of us swapped the spark plug caps for NGKs, which means a new set of slightly different plugs. Service parts are available online from two or three very good suppliers. Lots of guys here on the forum love their V9s! I hope you will too!

Thanks for the good wishes.

I want to comment on the value of an online group with shared passion for a vehicle, the associated merchants. and used parts marketplaces. For me, it is probably the most valuable contribution made by the Internet because I love vehicles, driving, and I do my own mechanical work and maintenance whenever possible -- I will spend $100 on a tool to do a $10 repair, right?

My Internet experience started with Jag-Lovers in the 1990s and I was able to maintain our XJ6s, an XJ12, and three S Types; then CorvetteForum off and on for a couple decades and three cars; Benzworld for an older S Type that I really enjoyed; and then here. I have been lurking for awhile and honestly would not have purchased a Moto Guzzi without finding a group with the strength and support of this community. I have read lots and am fleshing out the bike to suit my uses with a big top bag, iPhone holder, and crash bars.

I am also searching for a good solution to the need for a longer seat and welcome advice. I have read advice for local custom shops and the Corbin gunslinger type that I had on a Kawasaki Zephyr. I am less confident that I have a handle on the Baak seat and the genuine Guzzi two-up seat. Some of these solutions are near $1k and that seems like a lot. I also read about modifying a V7 seat and V7 seats seem to be more widely available. Anyway, thanks and best wishes.
