Good Morning,
I need someone to please verify a timing issue. I am working on a friend's 1993 1000S. All of the parts manuals show ignition points but I guess it was a split year because mine has no distributor.
I assume this means it has a crank sensor and a computer? If so, is there an adjustment for the timing? I just want to be sure.
I appreciate all of your expertise and help.

Many Thanks,

Most likely a digiplex (although it could me a motoplat) will have a couple of vacuum tubes in the intake manifolds and a sensor on the flywheel, no there is no adjustment, you can put a timing light on it and make sure its doing what it is supposed too. If the timing does wander its most likely a timing chain on its last legs.

You are right... Digiplex with vacuum lines from intakes to it. Great.. thank you.
Question: I was hoping to balance the Dellortos through those intake ports. Do they need to be hooked up at idle ?
I assume they are controlling the vac advance info to the computer box.
Is there a better way to balance the carbs? I would love to use those ports if I could.
Many Thanks,
Peter

Yes, you are to use the intake manifold ports to balance carbs at idle then at high rpm. There is also a wire to connect coming from the Digiplex box to lower timing about 2* but if it's running well don't worry about it. I would also clean off the crank sensor, it get's full of metal from clutch area. There is more info on the system in a newer manual like a 95 Sport carb model.

Brilliant.. Thank you guys. I will press on with carbie tuning and sensor cleaning.

The aforementioned manual (and many other good things) are found on Greg Bender's website:
