Resistance is futile-LED signals
« on: March 21, 2024, 02:19:34 PM »
1970 Ambassador did not come with signals so homebrewed up a set of LEDs from the mysterious East.

They light up when switched but do not flash -- Yes I am using an LED flasher module!

Tested with an incandescent 12V bulb it works fine. Can I just add load to the circuit at the flasher with an Incandescent bulb or resistor?

I would prefer not to have to wire one for each signal.

Wiring is very simple: 12V---> flasher--->switch--->bulb--->ground

If you use a flasher made for LEDs it should sense the voltage and flash. I would try a different flasher, maybe  a better quality one? I once bought one off amazon that was supposed to work with LEDs and it did not work, a different one did.

I had the same experience as bigbikerrick, from Amazon.  Went down to local auto supply store and got one that worked just fine.

I agree, try another flasher relay. I bought one for my '62 F100 to add LED. Didn't work. Bought another style/brand and it worked.

I use this one. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07MJGC28B . Make sure you're connecting it correctly, they're polarity sensitive.

I had the same issue with my Cal when I went to LED emitters in the turn signals. A no-load flasher from Greg Bender did the job.
