I've heard of SWM but know nothing about them.Is this going to be your main "get to work" bike or will you also have a dedicated road bike?
Be aware that SWM's apparently have an 'Achilles Heel' in the clutch washers. It's not catastrophic but apparently they break, usually between 5,000 and 10,000 miles or Km, (Sorry, I'm going from memory here and can't remember which,). It's a known problem apparently but one that has yet to be fixed. The simple answer is to replace them before they break, not a big/expensive job but you shouldn't have to.I too am looking at a Superdual for my next bike although I'll probably go with a 'T' rather than an 'X'.Pete
I did hear that mentioned and supposedly that has been addressed but not positive.JB
Unless I read the manual wrong.
Well, live and learn. It's looking like I am risking a new motorcycle to the USA with no warranty. I never bought a brand new bike before. I agreed months ago to fly and ride. I live over 1000 miles from the dealer. First service is 600 miles and I have no time to wait and am 1000 miles from home so I will need to violate the warranty by riding 1000 miles and servicing myself. I am shocked that the warranty is only valid under a dealership. Wasn't in the brochures at all. Unless I read the manual wrong. JB
ok, thanks. I may just change the oil and check the valve clearance on my way home at the 600 mile point. JB
I'd read up on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. If the dealer charges for service while the bike is under warranty you have every right to perform the work yourself with approved products )OEM filters and oil meeting or exceeding manufacturers specs) w/o sacrificing warranty. Keep receipts and records of when you perform the maintenance and what you performed.
