Superdual X is about ready
« on: June 28, 2019, 07:54:31 AM »
It was very hard to decide between the V85 and the SWM Superdual X but I picked the SWM. Mostly because it was 125 pounds light and the 18/21 inch wheels.
AF1 Racing has the bags and new Arrow exhaust on it and waiting for them to do the full checking/testing before I fly down and ride it back to northern Illinois to register it then to my current project in Philly.

I've heard of SWM but know nothing about them.

Is this going to be your main "get to work" bike or will you also have a dedicated road bike?

Happy for you that you are finally getting it! It seems like it's been a long wait.

I don't know yet. I have 800k on Guzzis and would like to do the million. I have if including other bikes. I am still keeping several Guzzis. I guess it depends after riding it, how it feels after a 1000 mile day to see if it will be my road bike as well. I do want to do Alaska once more and Prudhoe Bay and maybe this will be what I use.

Be aware that SWM's apparently have an 'Achilles Heel' in the clutch washers. It's not catastrophic but apparently they break, usually between 5,000 and 10,000 miles or Km, (Sorry, I'm going from memory here and can't remember which,). It's a known problem apparently but one that has yet to be fixed. The simple answer is to replace them before they break, not a big/expensive job but you shouldn't have to.

I too am looking at a Superdual for my next bike although I'll probably go with a 'T' rather than an 'X'.

I did hear that mentioned and supposedly that has been addressed but not positive.

SWM addressed the clutch issue with a rear cush hub.How do I know,I own a Husky TE630.If the SWM runs as good or better than a 630 it will be a great big bore dual sport.

I'd read it's still an issue but I have no first hand experience so I'll happily defer to others.

Well, live and learn. It's looking like I am risking a new motorcycle to the USA with no warranty. I never bought a brand new bike before. I agreed months ago to fly and ride. I live over 1000 miles from the dealer. First service is 600 miles and I have no time to wait and am 1000 miles from home so I will need to violate the warranty by riding 1000 miles and servicing myself. I am shocked that the warranty is only valid under a dealership. Wasn't in the brochures at all.  Unless I read the manual wrong.

This kind of stuff has been manuals forever, mostly because they can get away with in many markets outside of the US. Ignore it.

ok, thanks. I may just change the oil and check the valve clearance on my way home at the 600 mile point.

The service manager was quite happy to let me do 1st service on my new Guzzi, I bought the supplies from the dealership so they didn't miss out altogether.

I'd read up on the  Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. If the dealer charges for service while the bike is under warranty you have every right to perform the work yourself with approved products )OEM filters and oil meeting or exceeding manufacturers specs) w/o sacrificing warranty. Keep receipts and records of when you perform the maintenance and what you performed.
You are exactly right.
Here's an overview of the act with respect to this discussion:
Passed by Congress in 1975 - Section 102(c), 15 U.S.C. 2302(c), to prevent manufacturers from using disclaimers on warranties in an unfair or misleading manner. Prohibits tying arrangements that condition coverage under a written warranty on the consumer's use of an article or service identified by brand, trade, or corporate name unless that article or service is provided without charge to the consumer.
