1984 V65C Oil Filter
« on: August 07, 2022, 04:08:16 PM »
You do-it-yourselfers.......I'm changing oil/filter on a 1984 V65C without a manual.  It looks like I will have to drop the sump pan to replace the oil filter-correct ?  Anything else I need to know ?  The Kid

No, there's a bolt with 13 mm hex head that's removed, then the filter cover comes off.

One bolt.  Cover plate drops off the bottom and the filter comes out with it.  Careful with the perimeter o-ring in the cover plate.  Careful with the vertical orientation of the filter and its attached spring.  IIRC, the sump has TWO drain plugs; one forward, one aft.  Remove both for a complete drain.  Be VERY careful reinstalling the drain plugs. Quite easy to strip out those aluminum threads.  Doesn't take much torque.

compare the old and new filters , they exist in different length for different models.
if you fit the wrong one , it wont filter.
