more computer problem
« on: October 11, 2016, 01:14:09 AM »
This morning I noticed that the battery on my Mac air was at 92%.  I plugged in the charger and continued to use it.  soon it was at 89 %.  I turned it off and went tothe coffee bar in town.  An hour later with the computer still on charge and the little orange light showing that the charger was charging, I turned it back on.  The battery was at 88%.  I ckicked on the battery icon and a message said, "battery not charging".  I took it to the other charger and plugged it  in again.  Another orange light on the connecter and again the not charging message.  WTF?
Do  any of you have this in your experience with a Mac laptop?

Bad battery.  It's going Samsung on you (or is it Samsung that's going apple -- apples have been doing this for years).  Is the laptop swelling?  Looking like a ravioli?  A little kardashian at the bottom?  When they go bad, those batteries often enlarge to the point that they distort the laptop case and break things like circuit boards and solder.  It was a common repair to replace them (depending on year and variant) back when I was working on them.  Replace it if its replaceable (might have to get the special 5-pointed mac cracker screwdriver to open it up) before it ruptures and the fruit flies escape!

Yes, I had that same problem on a 5+ year old MAC Book Pro.  Over time, the lithium battery just begins to "swell" and thus becomes defective.  If left to continue...they even sometimes catch fire!! (Not good...)  Sorry, but it's time for a new laptop....and that's just what I did.

I took it to the Mac wizard today.  He has ordered a new battery for 180 dollars, and a bit of wait time.

Well, that is certainly a lot cheaper than a new MacBook Pro (at around $2K!!!)      Hope this solves the problem...
