As of now, Cookie and I are planning to leave Seattle a week early and go down to ride the North half of the PCH (until we get to the closure), then double back to Susanville.
JJ, I look forward to a frosty adult beverage with you.

Right on Bill, and SAFE TRAVELS! :thumb:

If not a "frosty adult beverage", then, it will be a nice "digestive" like Limoncello or GRAPPA!!

After looking at the Susanville thingy, half of all the people employed in the town work at the prisons. I'll betcha those correction babes chew nails and spit out staples! If I make it, I will definitely have a beer with you or two or three...California has those cloudless blue skies and since it is a drought year they will be beating down on us ad infinitum.

Bill, the Big Sur highway closure is supposed to end over the next two weeks.  By the end of April.  You should be able to do the whole thing in advance of the rally.  Instead of looping back, there are some terrific ways to cross back over the coastal mountains and return north without retro-routing.  Let me know if you would like further coastal routing advice.  Heck, you might even want to stay with us.

That is good to know. I have been blocked by fires ( the Malibu Rally), mudslides, mechanical issues and once, ungodly cold weather with freezing fog predicted. I guess I will try again this June. We really like Pismo Beach at the South End of  the PCH, so might try to work that in.

To me the ride is more important.  The actual going from A to B.  The B gives you a direction.  The "road" creates memories that you can't buy.   :boozing:

Unfortunately I live an hour and half from Susanville and go there often so the ride there will be "been there done that". But hanging out with a bunch of motorcyclists will be well worth "enduring" the short trip. But I will be doing some longer rides this summer. Planning on Broken Arrow. Looking forward to a great weekend.

There are always exceptions to the rule.  In this case you're the exception.     I feel your pain.  I live on an island.  For a longish ride, I can lean right or lean left.   :boozing:

I remember talking to several of the locals when I visited both Maui and Kauai...and they ALL said that at least once or twice during the year, they had to get off the island due to..."Island Fever."

Must be the local transplants known as "Haole" or whites.  "no breath" people.  Kanaka ma oli (Native Hawaiian) their outlook is their island is home so no such feeling of "rock fever".

My wife has finally settled in on the Big Island as being home.  She doesn't miss the congestion of Honolulu.  Both of our families are on Oahu.  We miss family but not the craziness of that island.  :thumb:

I thought I was going to make it but, my hip replacement is scheduled for June. Frankly guys, I have a very hard time riding now. Otherwise I would be there 'or be square'. Hopefully, I can make it for the next one.

Yes...you are correct, Tom.  All the people I spoke with were "transplants", (not natives), from somewhere else in the US.
