Last time I was going through there....huge forest fire.  The fairgrounds was packed with fire fighters from other parts of CA.  "No room at the inn".  The motels were crowded with residents.  I started in Canby, OR in the morning and I was looking for a room.  The desk attendant suggested Reno for a room.  Since it was close to Dayton, NV.  I rode through the night to the campgrounds for the NV State rally.  Saw my son at UNR and headed south ultimately to drop my bike off in PHX.  Richard came up from PHX.

I got word of this rally a week ago. There wasn't too much information at that time. I haven't had a chance to read the newsletter yet. I will be attending as I live an hour and a half away.

I was headed to the meet a few years ago when it was in the redwoods outside of Santa Cruz when the #1 cylinder on my Ambo blew a whole in the piston. Not a good place to have trouble on the 405 in the dark during early morning rush hour. I like to go to this one in Susanville but, I desperately need a hip replacement as it is very painful to ride. A matter of fact, I have a difficult time even getting off the bike after 100 miles let alone 700+. But, I may be there.

Joanne & I will be at this year's NATA rally in Susanville.  Anyone who can - try riding the 140 miles of twistys on route 36 from Red Bluff to Fortuna near the coast - or opposite direction.  Amazing ride:
https://www.motorcycleroads.com/motorcycle-roads/california/twisty-road-next-140-miles-california-route-36  I've ridden this route 3 times and it always makes a great adventure.  Stop at the roach coach at "Mad River" for a juicy burger & shake about midway.   :food:

Susanville?  That's pretty much the poster child for Middle Of Nowhere.  Closest I ever got was the Honey Lake Bomb Disposal Site back in 1994.  Which ended much better than it could have

Tempting.  June they say...

IF you stay in Beatty then you don't have to stay at the Clown Motel.  Just fuel up and ride through.     I know, I know.

The MIZPAH Hotel is restored and a GREAT destination at the end of a long ride, and they have a cool saloon  :boozing: and an outstanding steak restaurant there! :thumb: ...and there is gas in town.   :thumb:

Beatty is a town like something out of "Twin Peaks" where people are living lives of quiet desperation...  Been there myself...and no thanks!

You can review the dinner menu on their website.  Trust me...after 7-8 hours in the saddle, a nice, sit down meal with a cold beer or a glass of vino and more goes down easily!! :thumb:  :boozing:  :thumb:

It was 50* in Tonapah this morning, which seems pretty good, considering the elevation.
42* and sunny in Seattle!

For this Easter weekend, they are forecasting "record heat" here in the greater Verde Valley, mid-to-high 80's....and down in the "Valley of the Sun" (aka Phoenix or "The Forbidden Planet")...it will be in the MID-90's - - - and it's only early April!!!

No green skies in the "Valley of the Sun", but due to the low humidity, just "ocean blue skies", most of the time, even when it is 100+ degrees!  Like this!! :thumb:
