Cali1400 Hanging throttle
« on: November 23, 2015, 09:31:24 AM »
in the last 2-3 weeks I've noticed that my throttle, upon release and the clutch pulled, hangs open at around 1800-2000 rpms.  Only occasionally, and predominantly when in traffic where the motor is hotter than at speed.  I searched here and found an old thread from 9/13, but no follow up as to the solution.  Anyone experiencing the same?  Anyone have a solution?  '14 Cali 1400 Touring, 9600 miles.

Make sure the tank breathers aren't pinched. Check your airbox isn't full of oil. Perform the 'Self Learning' functions for the demand sensor.

Yes, I had the same happen to me under the same circumstances... Stopped, shut down, restarted, problem gone. Only happened once, after being in heavy traffic, it was also a hot day.

Does the 1400 use fly by wire technology?

thanks Pete. i'll check the airbox today and the rest i'll pass along to the mechanic tomorrow.  Other than this issue, she's been rock steady and a great pleasure to ride.

Mine is also doing that at times. Doubt if it's the throttle plate hanging up, but may be a defective throttle (Grip) potentiometer. Post if you find the solution.  :boozing:

I've seen this with other, non-Guzzi ride-by-wire throttles, so it isn't unique to your 1400.

Mine seems to do this occasionally. It has no adverse effect, so I expect it's normal with the RBW.

Unless the cables are binding mechanically, it'll be the "demand sensor" basically the TPS for a RBW bike. Could need a reset / calibration... Search for other posts by me here for details, what you describe happened to me but in a far more spectacular fashion...

I searched for your previous thread regarding this, but didnt find anything.  I did, however, read your post in the brake problem thread and I have that going on as well.  Ill look in to that as well.

Might sound simple but do you have any bar end weights on. Loosen and remove the one on the throttle side. You might need an additional slim spacer of less a diameter than the bar to eliminate friction.

This has happened to me twice this year but only recently. I have been in horrible stop and go traffic this summer and it didn't do this. In the last 1-2 months it's happened at least twice after following this situation here and on other sites. Does anyone know what's involved in a reset and how to do it? Has anyone else found an exact fix for this? Why would this start all of a sudden so to speak?

If you want to reset the trims? Just disconnect the battery for a minute or two. If you want to do the self learning process for the demand sensor you'll need Guzzidiag or one of the proprietory tools like PADS.

Thank you! I'll disconnect the battery tomorrow to see what this does as my first process.
