I always thought the 94 in 357 would be a cool rifle to have. Never did pull the trigger on one.

I miss plinking with a .22. When I was a kid we would just go down by the river or back of a tobacco field here in Ct., kind of like riding a dirt bike, everything is built up now so no where to shoot.

That is one of a number of things that I like about living out where I do. I can shoot directly off my deck or porch. I can set up to shoot up to 800 yards if I wish although I do not have the ability to hit much of anything at 800 yards. For up to 100 yards I take the screen off of my shop window and use my work bench for a shooting bench.

I shot a skunk many years ago, that was eating the cat food.

I used a bow.

It wasn't good.

I'm rolling with 3 .22 LR rifles: a very old Win single shot bolt action with the manual cocker, a 1960s Rem 511-X Scoremaster and the Mod 452 CZ American.
Above those, running a Ruger stainless .22 Mag rifle with the rotary mag, and another CZ in the fabulous .22 Hornet.  Only problem with that is way too expensive
factory ammo.  Need to reload that one.  Above the Hornet are my .223s, another bolt CZ rifle there and a Ruger M-14.  Above that is a .220 Swift Savage 112-V.
So- pretty well covered in the Dot Twenty Two department!  I love the darn old smokepoles, I guess.   ;-T

"Hold my beer while I shoot that skunk...."  (sorry, low hanging fruit :)  )

I took a night shot at a skunk once, with my 10-22. Forgot the gun was sighted in for a 100 yards and missed. :p The report scared him off anyway.

Pinned the poor thing to the ground. 360 degrees of rock n' roll.

Even the dishes in the cupboards stank.

I have a Henry Big Boy in .357 as well as a Marlin in .357 as well. The Marlin gets most of the play time, the Henry is nicer to use, but it is just so pretty and the Marlin is already dinged up...  I have a progressive loader ( Dillon 550) and a whole lot of .38 sp brass. They run through those carbines like...   well, like .22's.

If you ever happen across a Stevens Walnut Hill, give it serious consideration.  Heavy barrel target rifle.  Very accurate and very cool.  I got this one at an auction about 15 years ago.  I know there are more around, but it's the only one I've ever seen in the flesh.

I do have a Marlin .22 Magnum for when the winter bunnies have been shot at so often that they retreat out over 100mts. Magnum Momma blows them away, literally!

davevv,
That is a beautiful rifle. Here is my classic in a Winchester Highwall. Although it is a centerfire it is a .22 (.219DW).

Lucky man!  I love those old Winchesters.  I have a couple other .22 single shots also, both are Ruger #1B.  One is a Hornet and the other is a .220 Swift.  I had a lever action .219Zipper once, but didn't keep it long.  Accuracy just wasn't there.

I kind of have a soft spot for the older cartridges that have fallen out of favor.  I still have a .300H+H too.

I might get a nice little .22 plinker for my son Joey.. He's a marksman (at least in his mind) but I know he can get 59 of 60 in sporting clays.
Or is it stupid to buy a >22 with the ammo situation?  I was able to get 2 boxes (limit) easily at Joe's Sporting goods.

Next, what rifles are out there now with ambidextrous safety? I guess that means a thumb safety ?

Tang or 'thumb' safeties are the only true ambidextrous ones.  The cross-trigger safeties are too, but a lefty needs to learn to work it backwards.  Then there are 'reversable' safeties and true left-shot variants.  I encourage left-shooters to get comfortable with ambi and right-safety since it needs to be a natural muscle memory and because 99.9% of the firearms he'll pick up in a tense moment will be designed for right-shooters.

I am "left eyed" shooter too.  Always like the semi autos, double action, pumps and lever guns.

Never touched a left bolt action.  Might be sweet.  ;-T

I'm with Luap on the classic Marlin 22's.

This is my Model 80DL. Handed down to my father from my great grandfather, then passed down to me. It has had two refinishes. First one my father did many years ago, It was kind of bland, so I re did it a few years ago and it really is a looker now. It often gets mistaken for a centerfire rifle.

The peep sight has always been on since I have known the rifle. This rifle is really a pleasure to shoot. My father tells stories of watching my great grand father pick off rabbits in the garden with 22 shorts.

This Marlin along with my stainless Ruger Single Six given to me by my father will always be my favorites.

Damn now I am thinking about a road trip to go shooting sunday.

See ya,
Rod
