Honda CBX?

Driving home today and saw a CBX tourer on the street witha  forsale sign. Didn't stop. It's the one with the fairing- white with blue trim.  There must be some opinions on this machine here.

in my mind, I get it for $900. and flip it on ebay for $5-6k?

 The CBX was kind of an answer to a question no one was asking . The "Large project " manager on the CBX was Shoichiro Irirmajiri  , who also was the lead engineer on the 6 cylinder GP bikes of the '60's . To some extent the street 6 was just Honda showing what they could do . Of course the CBX is a lovely motorbike , an inline 6 has perfect balance , and a friend owned one with an aftermarket exhaust that at high RPM's made a glorious noise . Still , a bit complex and not any faster than a contemporary 4 cylinder .

A couple of businessmen got together and started buying up everything they could get hold of on the CBX. Because of them, parts are absolutely out of sight. It's been quite the topic on some other forums.

A friend of mine owns two of them and rides one pretty much every day. He wouldn't be without one if he had a choice. Some parts are shared with other Hondas, and some are specific to the bike - and getting both harder to find and more expensive. If kept up properly they're a fine machine.

THATS NOT ITALIAN........go for one of those Beanerelli 6's. I had a 750 sei. It was cool, made a great noise, but I didnt ride it much as I was afraid of breaking it......

Back in 1979, my local dealer had  first gen CBX's , Suzuki GS1000's and 1 used Ducati Darmah. Against my better judgment, I sold my 850T, and rounded up the cash for a new bike.  I got  to test ride all 3 bikes. The CBX was fast, but large and cumbersome on the backroads I tested on . The GS1000 was more agile and was as powerful, albeit  without the Wow factor of 6 inline cylinders. Last was the Darmah  which is what I chose, 'cause, long wheelbase and all, it felt more stable and seemed to handle better  than the other 2, let alone the glorious sounding Conti mufflers.  Asides from that starting for me  a long term  addiction of bevel and rubber band Ducatis,  I should have kept that 850T

There seems to be a kind of cult around them that's interesting but I've never understood.  I personally think every one I've ever heard sounds like shite.  Wider, heavier, and handle worse than a 4 cylinder vintage bike which, in my book, have mostly all been too wide, heavy, and cumbersome in turns already.  Gimme a vintage Honda twin, please.  For some reason I've never seen an average sized guy riding a CBX, always some dude 250plus, like I'm a big guy, I need a big bike kinda thing.  Anyhow, my half cent opinion.

There was a guy up in PA somewhere that was specializing in finding, restoring, and selling CBX's.  A co-worker bought one from him and it did look almost new.  That was about 10 years ago though.

We had one in the shop so I took it around the block. Much more nimble than I would have guessed. I'd love to have one but now they are old and 6 carbs? No thanks.

A friendused to be a salesman at a local Honda dealer. They supplied a local tech school with bikes for the students.
One day the owner told the service mgr to "prep a CBX for the school".
He rolled one into the shop, started it and pinned the throttle until it grenaded.
They delivered it.

The friend in NYC has 2 of those.  We saw a 3rd one in the garage at the Beemer dealership in Manhattan.  I asked how about a 3rd one.  He wisely declined.  They are big.  He got a R1200GS instead.

Had the  cbx for quite a few years. Put 43k on it. never let me down. A collector from Indiana was buying anything six cylinder and I doubled my money .  Honda built it because they could and mine was a great ride. Probably the only bike I made money on.
