W gold and red stripes...how did that paint survive? What would you pay to redo that paint if you could find the gold stripes, right?

Not sure if the T's stripes were the same as the T3's and Convert's but MG has 'em: http://www.mgcycle.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=42&products_id=5168

Original paint? red and gold stripes? I may have been living under a rock but I don't think white was a color option for the 850T.
Root beer Brown , Black ( owned one of each ) and a couple other colors for bikes sold in other countries. The gold stripes may have been added as they clash with the red pinstripes ? And then there is the elephant in the room not mentioned by the very descriptive seller ( chrome bores)..... as they say back in my old neighborhood: fuggedaboutit !
-
I dont think that is original paint/stripes. The tape stripes Guzzi used on the tonti tanks follow the contours of the tank much nicer.

Naked alternator. Chrome bores? This is still a project, not a bike.

When I bought my 74 T in 78 it had been repainted the the seat was recovered but back then I just figured it was an old bike.
-
Mine was root-beer brown with some gold striping. It's white now, though. Haven't seen many other colors that are stock.
-
I'm with the majority. IIRC, no white with those pinstripes as oem.

Hi, just joined the forum and was looking at some posts and came across this thread. I bought this bike and am almost done witha restoration. Im pretty sure the paint is original

Good for you Tom. Glad you’re here and have that nice bike almost done. My first Guzzi was an 850T back in 1977. Have you looked at the paint in the channel on bottom of tank and inside of the side covers? I do think it could be original just that rare that no one has seen it before. They did a lot of weird stuff back then.
My buddy Dan Dettman, RIP

I just checked the parts book for the 850T (Greg Bender)
Colors are.
Red
Black
Brown
But other countries may have different colors available.

Here's a couple of photos from brochures. Looks like all gold stripes. My T was pong brown (as described by Cycle World) when I bought it, but don't have any pictures to show the stripes. I'd bet the white one was repainted, but who's to say.

I carefully documented my stock 850-T stripes before I refinished my tank. I have a vinyl cutter and as such, I reverse engineered the strip geometry to duplicate the factory stripes. These pics show my measurements.

The stripe along the bottom edge of the tank is straight visually, but since it is applied to an irregular surface, the stripe is not straight in the flat.
If someone should want a set, I'll cut them for cost. IM me if interested, or if you just want the graphic.
I'm looking for some pics of the end result to post

waiting for the tank and side covers to come back from paint. I have researched the color and as several have mentioned this may nnot be an original color. On the otherhand, ive feathered the pain back in a few places and can see no evidence of another color underneath. Of course this could mean that all the previous paint was removed before the white was applied, but underneath the tank and inside the side covers its all white, so who knows. I do have decent documentation and traced it back to the original owner who has since passed away but i plan to speak with his son to see if he can verify the original color. Thanks for the comments and this is a great site, ive learned a lot. Im posting a pic of the bike for your amusement. Any questions, please ask away

The bottom paint and inside of covers is white primer, is what they used for darker colors, so they could see how they are painting.
They did have Black & white police models.
