This thread has been here before, but I can’t find it.
I still think my Norge sounds a bit slappy in the timing chain. I put a new one in with no dramas and got a new tensioner from Millepercento, to replace the piddly thing that’s currently there.
I also fitted a new spring.
To my dismay, I see there’s a bloody great lump of casting preventing the mounting of the new unit. Is there a way around this issue ?
I’ve asked this before but thought some new technique may have surfaced.

Hey, is it on the RH side by the main bearing mount? That was from an 03 Hydro motor that's documented here. Thought it may be similar.

Yes mate, it’s on the right when viewed from the front..(gearshift side, clutch lever side)
Pete is all over the issue and we’ve spoken about it, so I think I’m rooted.
I just don’t want to ignore something she might be trying to tell me...(the Norge that is, not Pete) :clock: :bike-037:

It’s that dirty great lump of casting that’s the fly in the ointment.
The one pictured would fit as designed, under the two adjacent oil pump housing bolts but the casting precludes this.

I found most of one of those tensioners in my Spada III. The spring had broken. Never found the end of it, just as well the bits didn't get caught in the chain. The slipper part was mangled up.
The Guzzi one works fine.

The link i posted shows how Bill Owens "blended" the late type mounting plate to a spring loaded valtek tensioner....I'm guessing that that would work on your bike ? You do need to have an oxy acetaline torch to braze the two parts together though....

I’ll give Pete a listen sometime soon.
It might just be the combined slappiness of a 180,000 k motor, he’ll probably say it’s one of the better ones.

presumably you put the new chain in? didn't sound bad this summer but neither did mine till I slapped a new one in...have a good one !
