Title: Some interesting info from my dealer
Post by: Travlr on April 10, 2021, 08:48:56 AM
Stopped by my dealer, Manic Moto in Queen Creek, Az, yesterday.  He's a good guy and loves Guzzi.  His shop is an "old school" kind of dealer run by an enthusiast.

1. His new V7 850 models will be in April 14th.  He is getting 5.  He needs the inventory as he is sold out of almost everything.  He invited me in for a test ride.  I'll take him up on it.

2. The 1400's are officially gone.  Guzzi's biggest bike is now 850cc.  He is thinking of buying an Eldorado to keep as he liked the 1400's.  He sold several to Harley riders who converted.

3. His guess is the 100th Anniversary bike will be electric.  But that is a guess.

Mike

No offence, but that pretty un-interesting as far as I'm concerned. <shrug>

Thanks for that Mike. So inventory arrives after the 15th... I'll have to ride over and have a peek.

Shame about the Big Cali's, but they were never my cup of tea.

I don't know how I'd feel about an Italian electric bike.

I have not heard anything about an electric bike, the 100th anniversary units are a color scheme I think.

Thanks for providing the info about deliveries, I have seen a lot of questions about that.

I don’t think my generation, which most of you guys are in, will live long enough to have to lose our beloved IC motorcycles. I believe we’ll be able to hold out in the event we don’t wish to become “ stylish” until our lights go out😊

Because Piaggio has now positioned Moto Guzzi squarely alongside Royal Enfield as their competition?

Do you guys have a clear idea of what you are trying to convey?  As it is, your failing to do so, maybe take another wack at it, this time taking into account who your audience is?

And they are losing, Windy City International dropped them when they picked up Enfield

I usually have two, sometimes three motorcycles to ride. A few years back I had a 2013 V7 that I really enjoyed. So this last winter I contacted the Moto Guzzi dealer in the Minneapolis area to buy a 2020 V85tt. Then I saw the new V7 and couldn't decide. If they were a little more aggressive I would have a V85tt in my garage. Instead I ended up buying a Honda NC750x. Why? Because the more I looked around the more I became aware of the lack of Moto Guzzi dealers, the few in my area are over 190 miles away. I think they build cool bikes, maybe great bikes, but until Guzzi can figure out how to build a dealer network I am afraid they are doomed. And I still want a V7.

I've only been a Guzzi guy for going on my second decade now, but my personal observation is that they are never going to have a decent dealer network if they continue what they have been doing here in my time.

I accepted this for love of the bikes, and it's probably why I keep an RK in the garage too.

But I rarely "need" a dealer and I can bring my bike to one on that rare occasion (a state or so away). So I'm not losing a lot of sleep over it.

Ride what you want for gawd's sake, but I'm never buying a Honda IF I WANT SOMETHING ELSE just because of the dealer.

Obviously some people need a dealer and if they don't live close to one of the rare good ones, then they should by all means move along to another brand.

More shakeup in Guzzi North America last fall.  Don't get your hopes up for any meaningful change.  Thank God for Hamlin.

Thanks for the info, and glad to hear the new models are arriving soon.

Yes, <sigh> electric is the trend of the day, call it 'woke' call is realistic, call it what you want, I can't see myself on one.

The 1400 has been dead a while, though they seem to be selling their leftover stock from last manufactured as new models, at least into 2020. I still hold out hope that there will be street models based of the actual V85 motor/chassis (not what they produced for the new 7/9), but we will see.

Guzzi is definitely limiting their options with current models. Perhaps the new V7 will be as much of a hit as the V85TT. I think the 9 will continue to plod along as it has.

Regardless, my wings are clipped, no new bikes for me. Adding would only get something else clipped.....  :thewife: The Stornello and Convert are permanent keepers, and will be very hard to supercede the Griso and 1200 Sport.....

Without Gerry, Jimmy, and a few others I'd never have purchased a Guzzi.  Knew about them, and liked them, but having my former Triumph friends getting involved, well, I just HAD to join............... .....

One of my best decisions ever.  I've really bonded to them.  With them?  Whatever........... .................

As they said in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, "............part of the crew, part of the ship."
