Title: Dash light bulb retro fits
Post by: giusto on March 12, 2016, 09:28:44 PM
Hello,

I know I've seen comment regarding replacement of OEM Guzzi dash light bulbs here in the past. I'm sure options vart with all the higher tech bulbs out lately to retro fit LCD or LED or?
I was out for a magnificent ride today in Northwestern Lower Michigan on my 84 V65C and really noticed on this sunny day how poorly lit the dash is. Please let me know what has worked for you all.

Thanks for the help

I found the dash lights pretty useless during the day time on my 81 G5, which I believe has a similar dash as yours. I decided to get LED bulbs for the dash turn signal indicators only however, and that's my recommendation. If you upgrade the others to LED it might just be "
too much light shining in your eyes at night. Some upgrade them all, so that's a personal preference.

Things to know. Best to use the same color LED as the lense its to shine through (green/green)
Also, if upgrading the whole dash, leave the generator bulb factory as the LED might cause the charge circuit the not charge properly. However, someone here just did put an LED in the position and the charging still works, so at least know that if you do change it to LED be sure to verify if the bike charges or not.

The upgrade on the dash turn signals was a huge improvement. It's like day and night ;-)

I can post the part number later if you can't find it.

Groover covered it very well.

Here is a good source for LED bulbs. I have been dealing with them for some time.

Thanks John, thanks Groover!

Much appreciated.

The nutral light is also almost non exsistant and since my son will be riding this bike I think I'll go with changing it and the directionals.

When I had the Convert I changed the dash lights to LED and it made a BIG difference in the daylight but were still not annoying in the dark although I rarely rode at night. Still left the standard charging bulb.

It's an easy swap that makes a significant difference. Also they last for something like 10 years and take a teeny tiny bit of energy. Win win win, win.  I bought mine from superbrightleds as well.

Superbrightleds website is also where I bought mine. Changing the neutral is a good idea, I might do that on mine too.

The part number for the green bulbs for that socket type is: "74-GHP Green"

Final note: they are positive/negative sensitive. Meaning, if it doesn't light up, flip the bulb in the socket and it will work.

For my single gauge/face Ambassador, I used 5 of these:

And one of these:
