‘17 Stelvio Quirks

OK, so I’ve had my brand new ‘17 Stelvio for about a month and about 700+ miles.  Fantastic bike and totally different then my ‘16 Eldorado, of course    Couple things tho:  The windshield has an annoying rattle when in its full upright position.  I believe it’s rattling in the front where one of the lower tips is contacting the fairing.  Any one have this issue?  I suppose I could add a small washer behind where the windshield attaches to the adjustable bracket to bring it forward just a tad.

The other issue is by design I suppose.  The pannier key cannot be removed from the lock when its in the unlocked position.  WHY?  That means I cant leave my panniers unlocked.  When they are closed, they HAVE to be locked.  The locks on my ‘16 Eldorado bags (factory Guzzi hard bags) don’t work like that, I can have them either locked or unlocked.  Thoughts?

I put rubber washers to space the shield out slightly. Works well. Locks are what they are. My ‘17 has been sleeping for a few months. Looking forward to waking her up.

My 2012 NTX has the older style lunch pail locks ,they can be left in the unlocked position,I rarely lock mine.I added rubber cushions or bumpers to the bottom corners of the windshield where it rubbed on the fairing.

My 2009 has the lunch-pail locks too, but they could not be left unlocked because the key wouldn't come out unlocked.

However, after 52,000 miles of hard use, the lock cylinders failed (all four of them, they're pretty cheap stuff), so I just pulled out the lock cylinders and now they work fine.   It's very convenient to be able to just flip them open and shut with no key.    Locally, I don't need to lock them, and on trips I don't leave anything in them that needs to be locked up.

That's sort of cheating, I know.

My rattle was from the left handguard touching the reservoir. The windshield would make contact in the fully down position. A little time with an allen wrench positioning things correctly on the bars and now she is rattle free.

Space your windscreen out with washers, make sure the handguards are not causing the rattle...fuse the fog lights.

Fog lights still need fuses on the ‘17?

I cut about 1" off from the bottom "winglets" of the windshield. End of rattle.

Yes, all versions of the big tank models.

Thanks for the input guys.  One more thing.  Anyone found a decent cup holder and what location?  Looks like all the handlebar mount versions would hit the tank.

Your joking right ...don't forget that push button cigarette lighter you'll need that too,just drill a big hole in the dash.

Well Ok then, I don’t smoke but might start with that fantastic idea!!   So, anybody have anything actually helpful?  Thinking about a simple mount on the front inside flat spot on the pannier.

Cup holder or not...replace or fuse the accessory lights or you will have an adventure.  MG steadfastly refusing to correct this problem.  You will love the Stelvio despite the (many) quirks.
