aircraft guys, look at this

Aircraft guys, this was shown on the HAMB hot rod site as an example of bad welding. It was part of the frame of a FLYING Foker tri wing replica...
Do these hand built aircraft get a close inspection?

That’s why they have 3 wings.
2 of them can easily come off in flight, THAT is disgraceful.....

Looks like Ray Charles welded that with his feet.

Yes.
As an Experimental Aircraft Association technical inspector, I've seen some poor welding. Nothing like that stuff, though.  It is suggested, but not required to have a tech inspector look at it.
It is *required* to have either an FAA Flight Service District Officer or Designated Aircraft Inspector go over it before licensing, though.

My oxy/acty skills may not be the greatest, but that gives chills the longer I look at it.

Learning how to weld is a worthy task for sure, but...

Maybe the pictured welder should  have started with something more earth bound, like a cattle gate for use out on the range. (how I started).

True statement. The best way to learn is by doing it on scrap . After I was able to weld so that it was structurally sound I needed to work on appearance. To that end I still like to start a welding project where the weld will not show so that when I get farther along and the welds look good as I get everything set and remember how, the welds that show look good. That’s cheating of course but in aviation “ if it looks good, it is good”.  That’s humor.
The worst I’ve seen was on a Cardinal that someone had used an oxyacetylene torch to remove a wing rib to fit a wing leveler for an ultra light. A city administrator had bought this aircraft without a pre buy inspection and that was just one of the many unairworthy  things I found on it.

Those welds look almost like they were done by a harbor freight 120V ac wire feed machine, although there is not enough spatter. Scary stuff.
