Fitting Dellorto PHM40's on a LemansIII
« on: January 09, 2015, 05:17:23 PM »
Winter boredom and a lucky find has me thinking of adapting the PHM 40's I now have to my Lemans III. Yes I now, the PHF 36 work perfectly fine but the Lafranconi Competizione and the B10 cam, need company. I have a couple of questions (and they are not about jetting...):

1) To use the carbs with flat tops, I believe I will be requiring a new set of throttle cables, does anyone know what would work or would I need to have the cables custom made? As an alternative, does anyone have a set of bell tops they are willing to part with?
2) Fitting the carb to the head: Does any one know what kind of rubber mount I would need? does the one for the Lemans IV have the same diameter on the head side of the rubber mount as the square fin 850?
3) The mismatched (different production dates) PHM 40ND/NS carbs I have both came with 60/5 slides, the strange thing is that of these two slides, one has a hole drilled on the air filter side, low close to it's lower edge?!? This definitively would change the air flow most significantly at idle. Has anyone seen this before, or is this the result of a tuner with an extra drill bit..and I need a new slide?

Thanks!
Marco

Hey Marco. to fit the PHM 40's you will need the larger manifolds and rubber sleeves  from LM4 , or  big Valve Cal 3 with Dellorto PHM's. if you use flat top carbs with elbow sleeves longer cables will be needed. With Bellcrank tops, your cables could be used, but will need new ends to fit the bellcrank arms.  As per the hole in one of the slides, , you may be able to close it up with JB Weld or just replace. , see https://store.bevelheaven.com/index.php?p=catalog&mode=search&search_in=all&search_str=dellorto+top&x=0&y=0 for some used Bellcrank tops.
