Dusty... that's already been done.  It's called "Men 'O pause".  Effective deterrent.

Less than 10 people a year are killed by sharks.   Over a 100,000,000 sharks are killed by people each year.   I wish someone would devise a way to protect the sharks! :'(

Well , and I agree , but the inventors say this non lethal device might lead to that . If folks don't feel threatened by something , that something is often left alone to live its life .

I agree, it's sounds like a good thing.   And VAST majority of shark kills are done by mindless long line and drag net fishing by commercial fishing companies, not individuals or small charters.

Does the shark need to bite you on the ankle to get the effect?  So he will spit out your leg after he bites it off? ;D ???

Not getting eaten by a shark is really easy. Don't go into their habitat and most importantly don't dress up as a bloody seal!

The sort of sharks that regularly go people are alpha predators of the ocean. In their environment they're king! Don't screw with them. Secondly, if you do enjoy swimming/surfing/snorkelling try wearing a wetsuit that isn't seal coloured. Sharks aren't that bright but they know what's tasty and one of their main prey is seals. Seals and people in black wetsuits look pretty damn similar. People though can't swim like seals so sharks can easily mistake them for damaged seals. A damaged seal is an easy meal! Don't dress up as lunch! It's not bloody rocket science.

I live on top of the dividing range. Oddly enough I don't have a problem with sharks. Snakes? Venomous insects? Suicidal marsupials? Sure! Sharks? Not so much! ;D

Heck with the sharks.   Probably a million people are killed by OTHER PEOPLE in a year.   We need something to tase THEM and run them off ....

Spend a lot of time in the Gulf wade fishing. On regular day  15ft stringer between me and my catch.  30 ft if I see any sharks and more frequent trip to ice chest on shore. If I hook a shark, I'll walk back to shore to fight it then wack it with a shark Billy before removing the hook.  If I'm not keeping it, I'll cut leader as close to hook as possible.  30 years and I've been bumped once. NOT BITTEN shark was chasing bait and ran into me.  When a lot of sharks in area, I get out of the water, not for fear of getting bitten, but because the fish stop biting and the sharks (Alligators too) will eat the fish as you reel it in.  MOST sharks are excellent eating.  Sharks not  problem don't think I'd buy a shark shield.  Much more likely to get stuck by a ray or step on a broken beer bottle left by some beachgoer.

May be the case.  But there are over SEVEN Billion humans on the planet, there are far fewer sharks.

Have you ever noticed the way cows stare at you? I never realized that they were sizing us up, planning an attack: "Beefnado!"

That's scary!!!!
