2008 Moto Guzzi 1200 Sport - $6200 on Craigslist
« on: April 26, 2015, 09:08:47 AM »
Saw this on Craigslist: http://albany.craigslist.org/mcy/4991641228.html I am going to look at it. It's in the next town. Might be a good match for my 2003 V11. I am thinking of offering $5500. What do you people think ? Any problems I should look for other than the standard oil leaks, instrument woes and other electrical glitches. What is startus interuptis ? Can I fit a Breva 1100 center stand on this bike ? Thanks for any help !! Leon  :bow

It's got the mana bars and givi bags- nice. driving lights are another plus.  Startus interuptus is a non issue- takes 1/2 hour to wire direct.  The only real problem with these would be a bad dash.

At this age/miles,  I'd pull the rear end to do the swingarm bearings and drive shaft splines. No big deal.  The fule filter is the 1/2 plastic affair found on the Norges, so you want to change that out. There should be no serious mechanical issues. You may find the typical popping. I solved that with the Guzzisoftware from Paul here and a new map.

I think the price is about right. If you want the bike- don't lose it for a couple hundred bucks.  Oh yeah- and it's red.

This is my bike. Have had NO issues, other than leaking valve covers, which seem ok now that I used silicone gaskets. Gear oil was changed, valves checked at 6k. You're welcome to look at it, but it's worth more than $5500.

$6000 or $6200 is a fair price - if you want it, I'd pay asking and not fool around for a couple hundred dollars.  I sold my red 08 12S last Fall for $6500:  same bags, Renthal bar, heated grips, 10k miles.

Where are the driving lights mounted?  I can't see them in the photos.

The thicker paper valve cover gaskets from MG Cycle won't leak - not sure how the silicone ones hold up.

Great bike, you can build a taller / wider seat with the extra if you need more leg room;  Goldwing pegs slip right in and give another 1" of leg room.

GLWS, good luck with purchase!

The lights are mounted on the fork/fender bolts. Look good and work really well. They weren't on the bike when the pics were taken.

That's a good deal at what he's asking, and 5500 would be too low.  He's done all the right mods, and the Norge bags are a nice bonus.

You won't regret this one.

The bags on that bike were darn near $1000 if I remember... That listing price is a good buy.

That is a very fair price for all the extras you get... Like he said the hard bags are a GREAT add on and are not cheap - it was over $1000 for me. Mana bars were a great add on for me as well. Accessory lights are great cause the headlight is crap at night. Pay the man all of the $6200.

Andy, thanks again for the great buy back in 2012.  I loved the 12S but needed more room (6'3") - the Stelvio has plenty of room and all the big block goodness!

That is a lovely bike!  Riding buddy of mine suggested that since 'you like your 1200 Sport so much,' I should sell it and buy this lovely low-mileage machine.  It's tempting, but at slightly over 54,000 miles, I think my b&w is barely broken in, so I'll just motor on.  However, someone should pick up this lovely example of a sweet late-model two valve CARC bike.  Especially if you're someone who likes sport tourers with less protection from the elements than the Norge provides, but somewhat more than the Breva 1100 offers.  Believe it or not, that little bikini fairing does work!

Anyone want to give me $5k for a 2006 Breva 1100 with a brand new clutch, Guzzitech flash (no pinging), and Mistral crossover?    ::)

If so, I'd gladly pay the full $6,200 for this beautiful 1200 Sport!   ;D

If you want to drive a little further you can have this one for $4,300:

I remember talking with the owner last year at an event.  He was thinking about selling it then but evidently didn't get around to it.

Not sure what the   "Help Wanted" icon means in the square next to this listing. If someone needs help or has questions about this bike (mine), just ask. I'm here to help. BJ

It's probably because the Original Poster (bikelee) was looking for some opinions on the price.

Gorgeous Guzzi and worth the asking price as outfitted.  I kick myself for not taking a demo ride on the BRP when it was offered at the Virginia rally when they were new.  Just didn't want to hate my LM IV all the way home.   I didn't.   ;)
