‘97 Sporti Decals…
« on: October 16, 2015, 08:49:18 PM »

I have taken the ‘97 Sporti 1100 out of long term storage and need to take the body work over for paint…

In looking for new decals for the tank and front fairing I did not find any replacements for the “1100 Sport” for the tail piece.

Are these not available…?

The story of this Sporti is an odd one…  I bought this one in 2001, the previous owner had bought it from his Brother out in California, it had been modified in many ways by a shop in the San Francisco area and ridden out here to the East Coast.

The fairing had been sectioned and raised up from the gorgeous line that the designers had drawn up to accommodate top mounted bars and risers that had been installed.  In so doing of course the fairing mounting frame work needed to be modified to suit.
The rear fairing/tail piece had the “Hips” removed to allow mounting of Givi bags and their hardware, to mount these, the exhaust needed to be re-angled, lowered….  The poor thing was a mess.
Someone tried to make the Sporti into a touring rig.  Not badly done but not what I was looking for in a Sporti.

So, I removed the reshaped fairing and bought a replacement with a new frame and another tail fairing with those beautiful Hips from the same motorcycle in black and put the exhaust canisters back to the angle where they belong by way of  cutting and welding the exit pipes at the proper angle.

I have purchased Verlicchi multi adjustable clip ons to replace the top mounted bars and I will retain the Centauro controls; brake lever, shifter and pegs which are a very comfortable position.

I am undecided whether to use the black fairings and paint the tank and front fender to match or paint all of the pieces in the original red…

The tail piece is from a Spot 1100 and if I paint all the pieces then I will need those rear tail decals…

More later, I see the painter early next week.

Best,
Rob

I've had good luck reproducing  decals locally.  Many of the sign painters or vehicle wrap guys can print them.  Good photos and a couple dimensions should be all you need.  I suspect you should be able to get everything for $100-$125.  I'm pretty picky about my stuff being like OEM.  I've been very pleased with everything my guy has done for me.

There is part of the problem Dave,
I do not have the OEM graphics on this Sporti, the replacement rear fairing/tail piece is from a '95 or '96 Sport with the tell tale "Spot" graphics...  so I do not have good photos and dims to offer up to a transfer maker.   :embarrassed:

If the existing body work in black shines up nicely then I will consider using that color and matching the tank and front fender to the fairings...  :undecided:

Thanks,
Rob

So, anyone here with a '97 Sporti that can provide photos and dims for the stock tail piece graphics so that I can have them made If I cannot locate a set...?    As mentioned previously, the one I have had been modified many moons ago and I never did have the stock graphics from the rear fairing.

Thanks,
Rob

I picked up a tail section on ebay a few years ago and just looked at it and its got a Spot 1100 decal. So, you just need a photo with some measurements?

Close, I have a '97 Sporti with a different transfer out back.  I too have a tail piece from a Spot 1100 however I need the photo and dims from the '97 1100 Sport....  Nice huh...?

If I indeed cannot find the transfers for the later version I may just paint the tank and front fender black to match the replacement fairing and tail piece that I too bought from eBay...  They are in good condition.

Thanks,
Rob

I'm not sure if this is the one you're looking for but hopefully it is. Their site says they have 7 left in stock. For what it's worth I've ordered from TLM before with no issues. Good luck.

Well I took a few pics with dimensions but sending all pics from my phone to my email failed so I'll have to upload them straight to the computer tomorrow night and then I'll email them to you.

I'm working crazy hours for a while and pretty much have enough time to get home, clean up, eat, and head to bed, so that's why it'll have to wait another night. Sorry for the delay. :undecided:

In case you were wondering, the USD to Euro Exchange rate: 1 USD = 0.906844 EUR as of this AM…

Euro 84.78  is $93.49 USD
which includes the  Euro 35.00 for the “Fast Shipping Fixed Rate”

Thanks for the info on the 1100 Sport (Sporti) rear fairing decal transfers from Teo Lamers…

Best,
Rob

That's an expensive decal!  I could make you a (better quality) pair any size you like and any colour you like for around $20.00 USD.  If someone wants to post up the dimensions, I'll get onto it.  (I've mocked up this one from a picture I found on Google).

ps.  No prob if you've already bought some, Rob: I'm not touting for business!

Wow Steve,
That looks great, nice job.  I have however already purchased the TLM items.  The Sporti will be sold after paint so I don't mind having bought the OEM transfers.

Next time though I'll give you a jingle first.

Thanks,
Rob
