This MuZ 660 has a Yamaha motor so there's no problem getting parts for it. Whereas that 1000 MZ..........have no idea how you could ever get parts for it if you needed to since MuZ went bellyup right after that model came out. My `01 660 Tour is the best handling bike I've ever owned/ridden 1 or 2up and get's high 50s mpg.
I don't know, Charlie, likely a lot more 1939 DKWs out there than MuZ1000s..
If you look at MZ's website http://www.muz.de/ there is a link to their spare part (Ersatzteile) lists http://www.muz.de/ersatzteillisten.html, even for the 1000 S model! Use the "translate this page" function (Google Chrome browser) and you can see that they still offer spare parts, which they sell through an on-line shop.I had one of their robust 250 cc two-stroke models (ETZ 250) in the 80s, but hardly ever needed spare parts. You think Guzzis are hard to sell? Try an orphan. Good bike, I'd say it's priced about right. Do you have a place to ride twisties? You'll love it.
I have lots of twisties to ride, and have a Ducati Monster 796 that perfectly suited for it. And, I have plenty of other bikes. So, I don't have a need for the MZ, cool as it may be.
Never ridden a Ducati 796, but I also gotta tell you riding my `01 MuZ Tour in the twisties was a whole new experience! I had ridden my VX800 Suzuki thru corners literally pushing the front wheel thru corners like the real road racers do, but my MuZ 1 or 2 up was a new training experience on it's capabilities!! I was shocked !! Never had the balls on a public road to push it's front wheel thru a corner like that. Would only try it on a track. Some times you think you've tried it all and then you find you haven't. BTW, I used to amateur road race successfully in my 20s so it's not like I haven't been pushed before.
I've just been spoiled by the readily available Guzzi parts.
